Awesome! I think I'll just use Paypal for starters. Speaking about disputes, do you get that a lot? I assume it's mainly from people waiting too long for their products to ship.

People raise chargebacks for anything. I had one customer who received the product, told me she loved it via email then raised a dispute claiming she never received it.

You can't make this up.

Hey,

You have some great results. I'm building a dropshipping business myself and this is very inspiring. Can you send me a message so I can send you my website and so you could tell me if I'm going into the right direction?

What percentage of your stripe transactions are chargebacks?

It's not that many now since I implement a process for High Risk orders. I get around 4/5 a month which is less than 1% so I'm not concerned. I just wish Stripe would support the merchants more.

I must be missing something because the numbers don't add up.

A chargeback per week, after fraud prevention filters, and your processors (and vendor) think this is an acceptable level of risk? It'd have to be much less than 1%, like one-tenth of 1% to get to your 500K revenue number with your stated AOV of $35.

And, you're doing this with dropshipping, through shopify, sourcing from US, with 40%+ margins, converting at .1% with $2 CPMs.

Either:
* The numbers are wrong
* You're confusing chargebacks with refunds
* There's a missing piece - like you started with a large amount of capital or most of your revenue is not from the store but from upselling into affiliate offers, etc.
* There's nothing technically wrong but none of it makes sense because your posts are surface-deep; which is fine. For anonymity, you shouldn't share more than what your comfortable with. If so, I suppose it doesn't matter if it's a feel-good thread with harmless platitudes, but it's hard to take seriously when the math doesn't work.

Not everything is sourced from the US. I do have some specialist items which I order from China and sell via US fulfilment. I'll double check the chargebacks because my VA handles all that now. It might actually be a lot less because Stripe disputes take a few weeks to resolve (I sometimes see emails from an order 2 months back didn't go in my favor).

To be honest with you most of my chargebacks are blatant fraud from the customers. All my deliveries are shipped with tracking in place and for whatever reason (I'm not sure what) some US banks side with the customer when they know I'm right. I've even spoken to Bank Of America about this.

Like I said Paypal is great. I win all disputes not that we get many. The business is established and we have served almost 20,000 customers. We've reduced most complaints by using Live Chat, Order Tracking on the website and trying to deliver in 7 days or less when possible. Most of the time it's 3-5 days max.

Why would they risk pissing of their own customers when they can just approve the chargeback at no cost to them. It's not like you are going to stop accepting credit cards unless fraud reaches ridiculous levels. The problem is that banks have little incentive to stop credit card fraud. I have had a case on Stripe where I shipped to the address that was on file, with tracking, a signature and an email of the customer stating they loved the product and still lost. It doesn't happen often fortunately.

Also I think PayPal reimburses you for lost disputes if you ship to the confirmed address, but I'm not 100% on that.

I told BoA that they're backing fraud and I sent them email proof that the customer received it and they're happy with it. BoA didn't care and backed the chargeback.

Why would they alienate their customers? It's not like they pay for the chargeback fees.

Joe goes to his BoA branch and files a chargeback. You provide proof that it was a valid transaction. BoA tells Joe his chargeback was declined. Joe is pissed. BoA now has a pissed customer.

On the other hand, if BoA approves the chargeback you are pissed. You are not a BoA customer (I assume, and if you are there are lots of other banks you are not a customer at) so they don't care that you are pissed.

First of all, hats off to that Revenue, and this great post! Lots of good info here that I will definitely be taking with me, but I'd also like to leave something in return.

About the thing on not offering value first, I think it really depends on your niche. Some niches will profit more if Value is offered first, and when the consumers desire more, they will buy their Products.

In this Video, Frank goes into depth on some concepts, and on of them was, writing to 10 customers, offering to let them ride around in a car, even pay the tank. Half of them take the car, use it for a week, and the other half buys the car.

Edit:

Also, a lot of people in the dating industry, self developement etc. have tons and tons of free content out there, which is entertaining but also free knowledge. Which then converts some of their consumers to buying their products. But these are the types of niches that can't be marketed any other way, and depend on complete trust.

UPDATE - I've had 94 disputes raised across Stripe and Paypal in 18,000+ orders. I think that's acceptable.

The vast majority are fraud too. People know their bank will side with them over us.

Hey Sanj, thank you for sharing this. I know that you mentioned that it has been 1 year since you went full time with this, how long have you been doing this part time?

I was playing about with Shopify for a few weeks before June but then I took a leap of faith and dived right in.

I think Tony Robbins said it: "Burn those F*cking boats!" - cut that safety net and make it happen.

@Sanj Modha Hi Sanj, some more questions for you please.

1) Do you use more than 1 dropshipper per ecomm store, and if so, how do you manage/automate the logistics of sending the right orders to the right dropshippers?

2) Do you recommend taking a course (like Adrian Morrisons) to get started, or is pretty much all of that available for free online? (I already have some experience with dropshipping/shopify but was wondering if there are other things that make or break success that would be taught in such a course like fb marketing, etc)

Thanks!

WOOH.. Is all I have to say because I just finished reading through this entire thread and watched the video Tony Robbins video. Thank you for that share, it opened up my level of thinking and led me to see opportunities that have always been there, but I haven't been fully aware of them. I never heard of Frank, but after watching the interview I can see that the man has a lot of talent. I loved when he came up with the lawn mower commercial scenario in order to attain customers. it was quick, insightful, and clever. Another thing that I enjoyed was the topic on the scarcity mindset. I have come to realize that I have had that mindset in my own head. what do I have to lose? Well, now I am off to propel myself with all of this information and eventually create something great. Thank you both @Sanj Modha and @Robert Pajor.

Would you give out sample as a marketing tool? There's too many people doing that in my industry. What marketing tool would you recommend?

Hey xxxxx!

I am extremely sorry! I completely misread part of the information on your store. Rest assured, you are xxxxxxxx :)

I spoke to our Partners Team and because we're unable to xxxxxxxxxxxxx we're unable to xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx :(

Uhhh, "partner's team". As in affiliate partners perhaps??

I call bullshit

This is what I hate about jackasses. Now I get to call shopify and escalate. Thanks for wasting my time a**hole

Sanj Modha, great thread! Congratz on success.
You said you are using live chat as one of the ways to build trust and increase conversions.
Can you talk about more on that? What software are you using and who's handling the chat?
Any recommendation for chat outsourcing options?

You can say whatever you want. I really don't care and I'm not hiding behind any fake profiles.

I'm not selling anything here. It's just an inspirational post.

I did the private t-shirt training for people who asked me to after making $12,000/week off a few shirts. There are people on this forum who can vouch for that but I don't need them to.

I've done some SEO consultancy work for clients too. I've also sold dating CPA leads, affiliate offers and anything that I could get my hands onto.

I'm not a guru and I don't plan on being one. Take this information or leave it.

This isn't abuse, it's asking a couple of questions. I'm just wondering because this forum always has a passing interest on members with schemes and methods that are killing it.

With your backlinks and promotion as a SEO guru, self-declared digital marketing consultant, I just wondered Sanjay, @SanjModha, are you a scammer? It's not a question about abuse and getting defensive.

Fact checking is part of the process, and I know you're enjoying the Google rep and traffic from your post. However, with your webinars still for sale, and the swiped copywriting... it's kinda self revelatory o_O

I don't even sell shirts anymore. I just keep that domain because it's my primary email address.

I'm not selling anything either. I posted it for motivational purposes.

If you read the post I make good money. I have no need to sell a course or coaching (I get asked a lot on FB and here).

I agree which is why I have nothing to hide. I'm using my real name here and you can hit me up on FB too. But at the same time I don't think it's fair to call someone an "a**hole" for trying to share information.
