Newbie Mistake #2 - Our Landing Pages Don't Convert!

Do you think people aren't buying

... because your landing page "doesn't convert"?

... because your offer isn't good enough?

... or because people aren't hungry enough for what you're selling?


Landing pages don't convert.


PEOPLE CONVERT

... from browsers into researchers

... from researchers into shoppers

... from shoppers into leads

... from leads into buyers

... from buyers into repeat buyers (aka customers)

... from customers into referrers



Sales happen when the right people hit the right offer at the right time.

Guaranteed it is less an offer issue, or a copy issue, or a landing page issue.

I bet it's a targeting issue.

The crowd isn't starving.

I got referred from another post into this post only to be referred to another post, anyways great write up, targeting is a serious issue and its something I need to work on fervently. After trying the whole adwords, facebook campaign stuff it just seemed like i was wasting a lot of money, now i'm going a bit more direct, joining groups, writing direct emails, talking to anyone i see that fits my potential targeted customer (mummy's) I used to feel guilty for not doing this like i wasn't doing enough just sitting in front of the computer analysing what my CPC should be, but now it just feels like i'm wasting a lot of time, although the result is still a lot better than the adwords game, its just so slow and energy consuming and i know there is a more efficient way to do this.

Lol... yeah, I dropped in loads of posts and then tried to link them all up. Kinda like blogging in a forum. I gave up on that and created a master index here instead.

Remember that visitors arriving from AdWords and Facebook are often "cold" traffic ... meaning they don't know you. Joining groups and talking to people is a great strategy to get going too.

A timely read. Started an add campaign a few days ago that has gotten me over 500 unique sets of eyes on my product... with zero sales...

I'll stop feeling like such a loser and work harder on getting the right sets of eyes on my landing page.

I bet it's a targeting issue.

Excellent summary Andy, as a ux designer I often get the task of optimizing design to improve conversion, something I cannot (and will not)do for every website/landing page: indeed not every client takes care of targeting the right audience for the right offer. In no way can design or copy compensate that issue.
