Great Post man!

This seem to be the pattern for almost every entrepreneurial success. The idea of giving, listening and being present with the needs of others with the intention to really help them is what truly creates the abundance mindset.

One of the key things we’re learning is that you need to build an audience before you build your product. Build your audience not for marketing, but for learning.

^This truth gets tricky at times.

Thanks for the post.

Most people need QUALITY helpers, not just strangers from a street.
For example, I knew one guy who found a NEED. He wrote a book on an acupuncture. I was shocking with this. He had never faced with the subject and he wrote his book just because people need it. WOW, Sorry, but helpers like that guy just can harm or even kill people and the helper will never know of it. Sorry, my post is little off topic. But a helper must be a very skilled person in some cases.

@Grinning-Jack you're right man!

I'm no expert but I personally think helping someone, and using that as an opportunity to start a business - to make money right off the bat isn't right. Especially in cases like health where one has limited or no knowledge.

I might be wrong though but when one genuinely wants to give a helping hand - they just do it. Or advance further if they noticed a common trend...

...Hilarious example! But from a business point of view, that guy could have referred the person in need to the best acupuncturist in that city (who knows how many people needed such help?)...and BAM! a business could have been born.

More gold from Andy!

Folks take notice, read what Andy wrote here. Then read what Andy writes. He truly has given himself and his knowledge to this forum.

How much would you pay to get a couple of hours of Andy's time to merely look over your adwords campaign? $500? $1000? Yep. But he gives it away here for free.

How much would you pay to have a step-by-step guide to getting your adwords campaign up and running? Doesn't matter, he gives it away here for free.

Think about that, reread his OP. Just go help someone. Provide value. Look at his Rep Bank from less than a year on here--it's 10X some 5-year members. That is what providing value is. Give. Give. Give. (Admittedly, Andy, I have gone "broke" transferring rep to you :) )

Lol. Thanks guys.

Please note though that I didn't write the article. I credit it in the first sentence.

I'll have to write some up myself now. :)

I was just re-reading this thread and this jumped out at me:

Funny you should say that @randomnumber314 ... I'd never offered an audit service before, but after doing many many free audits (just to help people and learn where they are stuck), I'm going to start... and those are exactly the two initial starting prices I'm mulling over.

@Everyone

Justin Jackson's advice is SPOT ON.

Just help people.

Start NOW.

Feck "monetising".

Feck "scaling".

BOTH will follow if you help enough people.

The first quote in my signature?

“Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time, and always start with the person nearest you.” – Mother Theresa

What's stopping you?

GO!

From the article:

"One of the key things we’re learning is that you need to build an audience before you build your product. Build your audience not for marketing, but for learning."

This is incredible now I reread it a few years later.

It's how things have panned out for me.

I never tried to build an audience, I just tried to help people there and then.

This lead to learning:
  1. What problems people had.
  2. What people were stuck on.
  3. What the root causes were.
  4. What helped people.
  5. What solutions people were willing to pay for.
  6. How to reach them at scale (a work in progress).
  7. Lots more that I can't articulate yet.

Excellent point Andy! One question: would you consider utilizing the Ben Franklin tactic ( make other people do something for you) also a good strategy to build audiences and clients?

Such good advice. I found my niche without knowing it by helping friends with the same problem the last few months.

Now to move on to helping people I don't know.

Thanks for your comment @Camilo Ardiles. Which particular point are you referring to? Helping people instead of "building an audience"?

Can you explain more what you mean by the "Ben Franklin" method?

this makes me wonder.
How many people want to publish a simple app for themselves and their friends, even as just a novelty, just to say to friends "yo check out my app".

I could easily do that for people, make some simple app based on specifications and publish it to a developer account on google play, app store.
200 bucks lol

client doesn't have to know anything about app development or publishing, i'll take care of all that.
hmmmmm....

Building an audience. The Ben Franklin effect consists on making a person or a group of people do something for you and that will make them like you more.

Such a great read. Really changes your mindset about how to get started, and what to focus on once you've actually started.

Thanks for sharing!
