Only you can build your system to be a problem solver, no one can truly take you step by step.

TELLIN YOU, DUDE IS GONNA MAKE IT.

Those who simply want step by step instructions to building a business will ultimately fail because they lack the resourcefulness of a real entrepreneur. A bunch of people followed instructions to create cookie cutter e-commerce sites. They were doing well for a minute, but when Google released the panda update...BOOM they were doneski.

This stuff happens in the offline world too. My boy JackEdwards was talking about how his employees ran off and created their own clones of his business. When the market changed, all those employees went broke.

Resourcefulness is one of the key secrets of the Dolphin.
Quit being lazy and asking ice cream kid for step by step instructions. He will do you a favor by not offering any...because he wants to make you strong and resourceful.

I'm starting to think this is very important. My dad and I agreed to be accountability partners a little while ago.

MJ’s Book Did A Lot For Me, But When I Did Just This ONE Thing…Wow. Even I Was Shocked By The Results!

I want to dive deeper into how effective having not one, but MANY accountability partners can be.

I have WAY more effectiveness in getting my peeps to take action in my offline world. I would say roughly 80% of them end up taking action. Online in this thread, you see we got 12k views and you can see how many have taken action.

There are a few reasons for this, but the biggest is having accountability partners.

I have a weird talent for being able to help people see and embrace the greatness that is within themselves. I hate to say it, but most people are doubtful. Nobody thought that you could put a man on the moon. We did it. Nobody thought man could fly. The Wright brothers did it in 1901.

Then people tell me that I’m a liar when I say that you can start a business with zero money. We could put a man on the moon in 1969 and fly 100 years ago, but starting a business with no money is just waaay too revolutionary of a thought. Dang…people need to go back to their childlike roots and become dreamers once again. They need some friggin ice cream in their bloodstream. It’s all about being childlike…the curiosity, the willingness to fail, the lack of fear paralyzing you, etc. Trust, I’m not trying to hate on you guys. Just trying to help you understand how outrageous an excuse like “I don’t have money” really is. I wouldn’t waste my time hating on people when I got a business to run bro!

I like taking people who feel hopeless and magnifying the 1% of hope that they have left in themselves so that they feel outrageously courageous to the point where they can’t help but take action. Then I help them develop the focus of a high-powered laser to keep them taking action daily.

Want to know exactly what I do to have this effect on people in my offline ice cream shop?

I created a cultlike environment in the offline ice cream shop, sorta like what you see in the movie Fight Club.

1. EVERYONE in the crew MUST go to the gym 3-5 days a week and lift weights. If they do not do this, they are no longer allowed to chill with us until they get back into the routine again. I enforce this rule adamantly because it develops the habits of success. If you can’t develop the habits to go to the gym regularly then that’s a huge red flag as an entrepreneur because success is all about good habits and taking action daily. 100% commitment. In my offline ice cream shop it is VERY easy to commit to 3-5 days because the peer pressure and fear of loss in mentorship is STRONG.

BTW, you can tell a lot about how a person will fare as an entrepreneur by how they attack the weights. There are those who don’t give a shit and attack the heavy weights immediately while others are very timid and want to build up to that point gradually.

2. In my offline ice cream shop, I repeatedly remind everyone of how much greatness and potential they have. I convince them that their past has ZERO effect on what they can do today or tomorrow. This is essential because some of them have been sooo damaged in the past to the point where they feel permanently shackled from taking action.

YOUR PAST FALLS OFF AS SOON AS YOU WALK THROUGH THE DOORS OF THE ICE CREAM SHOP. You can make the choice TODAY if you want to change the direction of your life. Who’s stopping you? Yourself, perhaps?

You will not believe some of the peeps we got chillin in the offline ice cream shop:

a. Single mom going to school and working 2 retail jobs. Fighting to make things work.

b. Burned out father who works in a factory building solar energy panels. He always wakes up in the middle of the night trying to figure out how to pay for the private school tuition of his kids.

c. Former drug dealer from San Francisco. Guy has 4 felonies on his record so nobody wants to hire him. He has no choice but to create a business. Guy has tons of swag to be a killer salesman.

d. College students trying to figure things out.

A lot of them are just your everyday citizen too, but the point I’m trying to illustrate is that it doesn’t matter where you’ve been. You can make that choice right now if you want to change the direction of your life.

3. Every Monday is what we call “Make A Difference Monday”. Everyone in the ice cream shop is required to GIVE BACK TO THE PEOPLE. This is to develop the mindset of abundance. It doesn’t matter how big or small, you just gotta do something. They are required to document what they do and report back to me. Some will just buy a cup of coffee for the person in line behind them while others tend to go big with it and buy stuff like 100 Subway sandwiches.

4. Friday is “Face Your Fear Friday”. Everyone has to do something that scares them on this day. Ask a cop to handcuff you, ask a girl out on a date, go skydiving, etc. This gets everyone comfortable with taking action in the face of fear. This stuff can be difficult to do, but when you got the peer pressure on level 10 it’s a bit easier to bust a move.

I could go on and on about the different routines I have everyone go through to develop good habits, challenge their fears, re-wire existing limits, etc…but the bottom line is this: having an accountability partner works.

Take action...GET THE...ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER.

and the ice cream.

Ha, sometimes I am so slow. I am just now realising that this thread is a really clever ploy.
The ploy is to "take away all the weight" from the person, to trick them into gaining enough enthusiasm and momentum, so they can look back on their worries as trivial and choose action instead.

Well played sir.

The trick is, you need to take the weight back, but with a change in mindset, so that everytime you are faced with the choice of the old thinking or the new one, you forget the old one even exists as you pedal away blissfully ignorant to its past annoyance.
If you want to fully integrate the change in you, you need to create your own ice cream attitude, to replace ICK's awesome ploy, so you can KEEP that enthusiasm and positive choice attitude.

You are as good as he says, but you also MUST match it. Must lift it. So that he can stop lifting it for you and enjoy the sight of guys moving around doing it on their own.

Part of me wonders if zen******* bumped the "how to piss off a mentor" thread for a reason.
If you haven't read it yet, I advise taking a look.
Because thanking someone, is a lot more complicated than it looks.
You need to take that appreciation on, and you need to let that change actually help you.

My thanks will be stated, in my recognition of your sneakiness ice cream kid.
Your underhanded tactics (hiding what you were doing) is something I can totally appreciate and am glad to have been around for. Not just to stimulate my mind or to take all your hard work, but, in order to realise that your real intention is to help everyone when "out there". Out there when it is hard and there is no one else lifting it (just them).

... Reflecting on that generousity, I just have to say "damn that is clever... and brave...".
I've been helped in biz like that TWICE now... And it causes me to pause.
Helping people really does make a difference. I am humbled.

Ok, and on that note, I'll go do something. Flipping another ICK pledge of action in my hand like a coin.
Thanks for kicking me out of my rut. I am now happy to be accountable for myself. That ever devilish karmic circle is now full. I'll get this stuff done.

... (whoa, seeing the truth... damn... its nice)

I spent at least 3 hours on the phone with @IceCreamKid tonight and he bombed the shit out of me with ice cream. I had reservations about reaching out to him because unlike the previous posters who did, I'm not at the point of starting up quite yet and I didn't want to waste his time.

Let me tell you, he's got his head on straight and his advice/ method is setting me straight (and trust me I'm screwed up LOL). This thread, all of his advice, you really can't put a price on it. I'm so grateful for someone like him- he has given me so much to work with that I'm more confident than ever that my self imposed limits are a load of bullshit.

I encourage anyone who isn't a money chasing fool or lazy time waster to reach out to him because not only does he love helping people, but hes damn good at it!! Its time to rewire and make some serious moves, spread the love and get that ice cream!

And please for the love of the ice cream gods, reward the man with some ACTION in this thread!!!!

Ah yes...the moment of enlightenment when the ice cream gods in the sky smile down upon a man and he realizes that all of his fears and limiting beliefs really were lies. It's raining ice cream on him in NYC tonight.

My most favorite thing about being able to have one-on-one talks with some of these guys is that it takes me back to my younger days and brings back some old memories...I see a bit of me in all of you. Hungry for that first shot. Hustling to close that first deal. Dreaming of becoming something great so that I could be able to give back to the people. Real talk, I'm not a millionaire but I truly feel like I am living a dream of mine as I grow my business which teaches me lessons that I share with you. I will admit it takes a lot of time to give back and sometimes it drains my energy, but it is so gratifying. More than any Lambo.

My brother Tom, you are a first class guy. Thank you for the talk and always remember that the ice cream shop door is open for you to learn some copywriting or if you just want to reach out to somebody.

And please for the love of the ice cream gods, reward the man with some ACTION in this thread!!!!

TAKE ACTION. GET THE ICE CREAM. OH WAIT IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT...GRAB THE VODKA TOO! WEEE!

Took more action yesterday than I have in the past month combined. Close to launching new project. Goal is tonight. Winter weather in DFW... hope it closes down schools Monday so I can work on the biz all day.

While mentally I've still got some limiting issues that I'm working on changing, there is definitely truth to the accountability thing. I don't have anyone to keep me regularly accountable yet, but even just unloading on Ryan the other night gave me a big boost for the time being.

Or if you're a retard like me it's grab the absinthe.... :hungover:

Let's be honest I didn't do a thing yesterday. I talked to my dad about his business but I really didn't do anything. I hate days where that happens. Gonna hit it hard today though (and every day for the rest of forever until I retire). The weekend makes me hate my job even more. I'm tired of living for the weekend like everyone else I know. Tired of going for work just for a paycheck. I can't help people with my job I'm just a component in a machine and they program me to make as many boards as possible haha.

It's time to GET THE ICE CREAM. no more dicking around! And that goes for everyone else in this thread too!

I'm tired of living for the weekend like everyone else I know.

These teachers at my school crack me up. Wednesday is "hump day". Friday, they are exhausted and exuberantly declare that the weekend is near and then they spend all of their hard earned time-off on Netflix, movies, espn, video games, grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning, and dreading Monday. Sweet life, bro.

Can't remember if it was TMF or Your Money or Your Life that was talking about exchanging work days for free days. Exchanging 5 days of your life for 2 is a pretty awful deal, especially when extended for 45 "working years", but is universally accepted as normal. Trading 4 days of work for 3, is a little better, but is still more than half of the prime of your life. One of the most liberating concepts I grasped is when I realized I could strive for a 2 to 5 exchange, or 1 to 6... or 0 to 7. When I realized this possibility, I wondered why more sheeple didn't try to create this reality for themselves.

In a time of wealth-abundance, where one nearly needs to pick the money from the trees for themselves, it's stunning how many are locked into the status quo.

@amp0193 and @benh.... I printed a full year calendar and posted it on my wall. I cross off each passing day. I love this because it forces me to LOOK at the whole year in advance...and what time has passed. Makes me feel like..."shit...I DO NOT have time to waste..do something !"

Another thing I started was a daily business log, or diary. This makes me accountable to me. It's pretty powerful..BUT...you have to use it.

On another note...doing at least one nice thing for someone each day....Another big snow storm so I did my neighbors driveway and sidewalk for them again. The snow was really heavy and wet. I just couldn't let the lady and her 2 young Daughter's shovel that.
They caught me as I was doing my driveway and thanked me profusely. THEN, she brought over an incredible loaf of home made...I think...banana bread. Holy Crap ! It ain't ice cream but damn it's good !

Keep pushing guys !!

Bro this is awesome. May I ask if you have any customers or pre-sales? How will you market to acquire customers? PM me if you want to keep your ice cream project private and I'll help you get the ice cream faster.

I don't have anyone to keep me regularly accountable yet, but even just unloading on Ryan the other night gave me a big boost for the time being.
Give a $1,000 check to a friend that you can trust. Tell him that if you don't take action by X date, he can cash the check for himself.

I used to do this when I was a young lad back in 2007(21 years old I think). Eventually, it became a habit to take action daily. You'll one day get to the point where you get really angry with yourself if a day gets wasted.

There is definitely a balance that I need to work on. Sometimes I end up ignoring family events because I'd rather work in Candy Land which is a few cities away from Real World Land. In Asian culture, if you ignore family parties then you are pretty much an a**hole...ugh it goes back to the whole "bring honor to your family" thing.

Since we are all about taking action in this thread maybe it would be an appropriate place to get some guinea pigs for my software. I have a progress thread on the inside where I actually talk about what the software is but out in the wild I'll be a bit vague. I'm looking for 1-5 people to give my software to for free + lifetime upgrades and any add-ons/extensions/whatevers that I create. The only thing you'd have to do is provide me feedback, tell me what you like and dislike and maybe fill out a questionnaire once in a while (who doesn't like filling out questionnaires?). Anyone who owns a website or is wanting to start one feel free to hit me up with a private message and we can talk about getting you the software when it's ready for you to try out. You'd be under no obligation to use the software if you get it installed and hate it ;)

Hopefully I get some takers and in the process help someone else take action.

I do that with a monthly calendar, but I think a yearly one will be much more effective. Thanks for this idea. It's too easy for days to just slip out of your grasp!

I thought I'd bump the thread.

Ryan gave me a nice kick in the a$$ with his ice cream, I definitely got a lot done today. Am I on the verge of starting my business? No.. But armed with his insight and contributions I'm applying it 100% to my daily routine and taking it one step at a time to get the mindset of a true fastlaner- AND THEN THE REAL FUN BEGINS!!! Made moves to be able to quit my time sapping job soon enough though.

What are yinz doing?

Not doing much, about to hang out with one of my buddies for dinner. He pre-sold $10k to design a website for a local business owner this morning so we're about to buy everything on the dollar menu at McDonald's to celebrate. We like celebrating in quirky ways that make no sense.

Oh btw, he doesn't know how to write a single line of code. HAH to all those who think you need money to make money. Heck, you don't even need to be smart. Just clever.

Learn copy. Learn to sell. Learn to solve the needs of others. Then give back to the universe.

How Having Big Goals Can Ruin Your Life

Let me tell you a story about myself. When I was a freshman in college circa 2004, I worked at a retail store called Teavana. They sold 120 different teas. Yup, I was a professional tea hustler. WASSUP! I learned to sell like a madman at this job.

I actually got this job with straight hustle. I really needed some cash, but the manager didn’t want to hire me so I walked in on a busy weekend and literally started pretending that I was an employee. I started talking to customers and selling them products without even being officially hired LOL. Got hired on the spot for that wicked move.

Anyway, the store would post these ridiculous quotas that we were allegedly supposed to reach each day. $50k/day in sales…seriously, someone at the corporate office was a nutjob to think we could sell $50k worth of tea per day. The store averaged $15k/weekdays and $30k/weekends at best.

We quickly learned not to even pay attention to the ridiculous quotas because they weren’t attainable anyway.

Moral of the story: Set small ATTAINABLE goals each day and make sure you reach them. Forget about proclaiming to the world that you are inspired and will make $15M in the next 12 months. Those inspired people aren’t rooted in their reality. Can you make $100 this month? Sadly, most don’t even start. Don’t be that guy...inspired and mentally masturbating.

Make $1 this month on something you created. I dare you. Forget aiming for the $15M quota. Just start with $1.

Hustling tea for someone else was fun, but it’s way more fun to be hustling my own brand of ice cream that I created.

TAKE ACTION. GET THE ICE CREAM!!!!

Thank God it's Monday bro!

IceCreamkid, thank you so much for this thread. I think this is one of the most value compiling thread I have read here for a long time.

Just a question/suggestion: you are talking about the people you are helping/coaching/mentoring offline. Would it be possible to do the same here as well? I know it is different from an offline type of club but I am sure people would (and I would definitely) commit to your rules if you decided to go ahead with that.
I have been working on projects one after another for more than two years now and all eventually failed. I am taking action that's for sure but I must be doing something wrong and I don't see what.

What do you think about my suggestion?

What's up man! Honestly I haven't really given much thought to coaching/mentoring people online, primarily because I don't want MJ to feel like I'm using his forum as a vehicle to spam and make money. I feel almost like it would be a big slap in his face to pull members away from here and into my own coaching program where I profit. I post here as a labor of love.

I'm kinda stuck in the sense that I do want to help you guys out on a higher level, but that would absolutely require a lot of my time. I usually spend 2 hours a day writing quality posts on here then 1-2 hours on the phone talking with peeps from the forum. If I invest too much of my time coaching online then my real business will suffer and I feel like I'm already almost maxed out in regards to time. I sleep 4-5 hours a day.

I do mentoring in the offline ice cream shop for free simply because I need to have some cool like-minded people that I enjoy chillin with around me. I get irritated when I'm around small-minded people for too long. I don't want to hear about what happened on the latest episode of The Bachelor because I want to build something of value that impacts change in the world.

I have been working on projects one after another for more than two years now and all eventually failed. I am taking action that's for sure but I must be doing something wrong and I don't see what.

Have you really taken the time to analyze and reflect on what you have done right and what you could've done differently? It's usually quite easy to see what went wrong in hindsight.

If you are failing to get sales then chances are you are not providing much value to the marketplace. Why do you think you are not providing much value? Think deeply about this one bro.

Oh yea, and marketing. You could have a product that provides TONS of value but if your marketing game isn't on point then the forecast will be no ice cream raining on you.

How To Make A Killing In Sales Like A Ninja Assassin

Ah yes, my favorite word: SELLING.

This is the beast that everyone is afraid of. This is why you spend weeks, months, years toiling away working on your product and perfecting your website without talking to a single customer. You are afraid of talking to them so you can make a sale...or maybe you're trying to delay the possibility of reality telling you that there is no demand for your product. The truth hurts sometimes, but believe me when I say it sets you free!

Don't worry, the ice cream shop is here to wash those sales fears away with tequila...I mean knowledge.

I think I'm done talking about the mindset stuff and want to dive into sales/marketing, but I need your guys' input. Are you actually interested in the sales/marketing side of business? Do you want me to talk more mindset stuff?

Should I make another thread just for sales/marketing? Damn...too many things to do and so little time. I should hire a virtual assistant in the Philippines to write my posts haha it's pretty hard to find a drunken ice cream lovin' maniac out there though.

What do you guys want? Fill me in and I'll give you 3 scoops of it with a cherry on top.

check how your [can't] self-talk affects your reality. Does it help inspire & motivate you or does it depress & demotivate you?
see this video and then delete "cant" from your vocabulary as a first essential step...
start moving from fear to this thread's lesson.
