Hi Guys,
my last project went nowhere, so I am in the process of starting something new. This time I thought about focusing on my strengths.
I asked various people who have known me for different lengths of time, from family to friends to work colleagues, what my strengths are. To my surprise, I got many similar answers. Mostly it was along the lines that I have a quick grasp of things, which enables me to understand things quickly, remember them well, and explain them to others in an understandable way.
That's why I thought about making an information product. However, I have yet to look around for a need because I'm wondering how well that kind of business works today or how long it would take until you can make a living with it.
A couple of days ago, I read somewhere on the forum that information selling is almost dead online and that people are looking either for turnkey solutions, done-for-you systems, or some form of mentorship. That means that you already should have an audience that follows and trusts you, otherwise you'll have a hard time getting sales and that it would take a few years of work.
On the other hand, I read the thread of @Lex DeVille about his authority website, which contradicts this notion. If I remember correctly, he wrote that he thought it would take one to two years to make the money he is already making.
So I am interested in your opinion on this kind of business? Is it still a viable way for someone without prior knowledge of this type of business, or is it too hard to sell information online for a newby? Is it better to try something else in this case (like e-commerce, for example)?
How long will it take, on average, to make a living with this?
Is it better to build an audience first before making a product or the other way around?
Thanks.
