I have seen enough of the world. I used to think that the reason I hate to travel is the commercial airlines. After taking some high dollar trips, I realized that even if I replaced the airlines with a sick jet, my home is still nicer than a room at the Ritz.

I don’t even know if I’ll bother owning a jet. Just chartering or fractional ownership when I “need” to go somewhere.

A second or third home in places I like are about the extent of my future travel plans. Spending money on something that I don’t enjoy just because it’s held in some magical esteem by everyone ever is clownery.

Strangely, traveling for business is more fun to me than traveling for “fun.” I’d totally take a trade show over a beach.

I had thought about getting one but reconsidered since firearms aren't commonplace here. In fact, you can pull a knife on the police here and they'll try to pepper spray/taze you or beat the shit out of you, but not kill you. Despite this, we're considered a "police state" with one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) number of police forces per capita in Europe.

Also, one drawback to Bulgaria (especially for Americans) is that we don't really have weapons at home. And if someone invades our property (with the intent to steal) and we killed them, we'd be going to prison (unless proven it was in self-defense).

For business, Bulgaria is awesome. Income tax is just 10% and I pay approx. 300-350 BGN ($140-180) for insurance + accountant tax per month to keep my company afloat. And while inflation has been ramping up, the USD is pretty much equal to the Euro, which is approx 1.95 BGN, so whatever I make in dollars, I end up withdrawing double that.

Traveling and experiencing are two different things.

I worked remotely and saw "travelers" often in the hotspots in Eastern/Northern europe. They get off the plane with their huge backpacks, loud speech, phone guiding them to their hostel or airbnb only to spend the day in all the tourists hotspots.

This further became a thing to me when I met people at hostels. 80% of what they did was drink, drink and drink. Go to the same clubs all the tourists go to. Socialize only with other tourists and if they're guys try to pick up local "sloots".

That's what most people consider traveling. As a remote worker I was a weird hybrid. I too a tourist but also lived like a local a bit in the sense of I lived there while working. I learned "experiencing" a place is completely different. Hanging out with locals actually in their homes, going to local stores, going to the areas locals shop at, learn the language etc etc. Traveling imo is supposed to be about changing your perspective on things or experiencing another reality. Not going to old town(which all look the same in Europe mostly) taking pics, taking selfies alone or with other tourists in the Norwegian mountains or being a sexpat.

So yes, most 'travelers' make 'travelling' overrated. Can guarantee you if you ask most people about their trip overseas most wont say they spent time with a local family, tried to learn the language or went to local pub/bar every weekend to hear the woes and tribulations of what people who make up that country are actually going through.

Edit: Also "I have to deal with other people while traveling that sucks!" is part of the problem IMO. Seems some people want a virtual reality machine where they put on a headset and are transported to the beaches of Rio without a single soul in sight. Signs of how our modern way of thinking and living has truly bred isolation and even narcissism to a extent.

Also I think this is heavily age based. Of course if you lived it up and/or already did this when younger you wont enjoy it as much. Especially if you have kids and other people you have to pay for. I probably wouldn't either. But for those that havent or are younger we view it much differently.

I just have to mention this somewhere. Solar flares and solar storms send out blasts of microwave and radio energy, as well as other frequencies. This is caused by electrons being accelerated in a magnetic field, with higher field strength correlating to higher energy frequency.

Here's just a coincidental thing then. In 2003, the news was all about the biggest solar flare ever recorded at the time. Soon after, Europe experienced the 2003 European Heat Wave.

This year we're talking about the "fiery canyon" solar storm, though with short news cycles and clickbait, it seems like that was ages ago. Solar storms are the aftermath of solar flares. So here we sit with very similar solar conditions to June-July 2003, and what do we have once again? Is it another heat wave in Europe?

Solar activity and the corresponding energy emissions have increased since 1715; from 1650 to 1715 astronomers recorded no sunspots, even though they were looking for them and knew how to spot them. That period is observed to be the low point in cyclical solar activity. The same period is the dead center, and coldest part, of Europe's "Little Ice Age."

I assume this would be uncomfortable to talk about in some circles... the coincidences pile up enough, and it threatens a narrative about petroleum, or the interests of someone whose career is based on solely human causality in rising average temperatures. But really, shouldn't someone look at these correlations, occasionally? If nothing else, we might want to do fire mitigation or tune up the air conditioners after a major solar event, before it catches us off guard.

We have all these specialists like solar astronomers and climate scientists, and I sometimes wonder if they talk to each other.

Mega Corps and government powers are not funneling billions of dollars into astronomer's pockets like they are climate "scientists". Solar could be causing 100% of global weather change in a "water is wet" sort of obvious way and you would still not hear about it and it would be actively fought against.

I recently read something that described something similar. I guess the planets in our solar system are heating up as well. Hard to explain that based on human emissions! I found it interesting and would like to read more on the subject.

Talk to local realtor on interest rate and rental yield, even I have zero intention of investing in Australian real estate.

Chatting with local taxi drivers are excellent condensed lessons as well. How taxes and Superannuation work there, and why some restaurants gave rebate for cash payment.

I agree that simply sight seeing and tasting local food is a great waste of the money spent on accommodation and air ticket…

For the former, they dream of "travel" as some mysterious fantastical paradise escape from their shitty reality.
