Check out cpcstrategy, they have a ton of info. The space is changing rapidly and they always keep abreast of the field.

btw i have a brick and mortar clothing store as well, although women spend insane amounts on fashion its getting harder every year due to the saturation of it, handbags included.

Try bidding on the competitor brand name itself It might help you overcome the saturation!

If we can double conversion rates, we’ve instantly doubled sales (which is great), but we’ve also halved our CPA.

Our profit margin is now too big (yep, I’ve been shot down for that as well!), so we double CPCs to get back to the previous CPA. Which will often quadruple volumes.

Volume targeting, essentially.

I do this in my current biz.

I set daily volume targets for number of units sold.

If I meet that volume target, I hold price.
If I beat it, I raise the price.
If I miss it, I lower the price.
(of course with PPC ads this would be in reverse)

That typically results in a slow steady upwards trend in volume.

Too much margin and I am missing out on potential volume.

Too much volume and I am missing out on potential margin.

The trick is to build volume momentum without giving away the farm. (keeping the ROI on ad spend in the positive)

That's true. Once I raised my CPCs by $3, I got 10x more leads the following week
