Jobs can make you comfortable, or they can motivate you, they can give you a small inkling of hope that one day, you can retire with a modest amount. This is true. I work in the IT industry, and make a comfortable living. I go to work at a desk job and fix the network on Cisco router/switches/firewalls. Sometimes it's challenging, and it's for a credit card authorization company. I literally watch the transactions as they happen. Thousands of them every minute, the company takes a small slice of profit from each one. I watch my yearly salary happen in microseconds.
