Do you have overarching principles you seek to apply in life in general or in the more macro in terms of your regular/daily decision making process?
Overarching? No. Dont be a slave to social convention.
Principles? Yes. They change with knowledge gained and experience had.
Keep your personality fluid, your mind open and dont be afraid to change.

Are you looking for specific examples or?

I'm just curious as to how people reason about life and the decisions they make.

If you want to list specific ones, that's great or more general ones, that's cool too. As you said, I try to keep an open mind and just see and hear as many of people's ideas as possible.

My biggest one is ”Treat others how you would like to be treated”. Second would be ”Do everything possible to follow thru on your commitments”.

I've been using what I call a 1-5-10 Framework for most of my life. It has served me well. As for what that is (and how it works) folks attending the Summit will get the full overview. I'll also explain it in my next book.

The one principle that informs what I do in every area of my life is "People are more important than stuff, even if the people are strangers and the stuff is mine."

Lets list some general ones.

1. Dare to question. Dont take things at face value.
Instead, make a conscious effort to try and understand the world around you.

2. Dont waste health and time.
Astrology - waste of time(WoT)
Homeopathy - WoT
Alcohol - waste of health and time (WoHT)
Drugs - WoHT
Arguing with government people - WoT
etc.

3. Strong body => strong mind.

4. Dont cling to falsities once you`ve been proven wrong, instead be happy to have your mind changed.

This is a new one since I read Unscripted :

5. Give to others, try and solve their problems.

I think I can write at least a dozen more but these are from the top of my head.

Tease.

When it's time to decide on a course of action I ask:

1. Will I regret doing this?
2. Will I regret not doing this?

Number 2 caused me to quit my job and travel the world for 2 years. No regrets about that!

I think this will help you.

your welcome

Moderation. Too often, whenever a problem arises in life, I find that I have gone to extremes: too much exercise, not enough sleep, diet too restrictive, etc.

Related to this: most people think everything progresses in a linear fashion: if 1 is good, then 2 must be twice as good! Not necessarily, due to diminishing returns. Probably a good thing to keep in mind in business.
