Hi, I decided not to sign up. I don’t see it being a good use of my time.I have been on it for a week. I have a say, it's a lot more fun than I've had on any other app. I have listened a lot, learned a lot, and hosted two rooms - both with amazing experiences.
PROS:
- You can listen to your people, the tribe you are here to serve, and get even more clear on pain points.
- When focused on relationships and just being cool, a lot of deals can be made.
- Unlike carefully curated images sold on IG and others, in Clubhouse, you have to add value with your voice - give - in order to be rewarded.
CONS:
- If you're not careful, major time-suck. I recommend turning off notifications and being careful about who you follow. That determines what rooms you are presented in the main area - what they call the Hall.
- There are some self-obsessed, insecure people just wanting to be heard as they go on about their story (but that is everywhere).
I do wish I was one of the guys inventing it. Like MJ says, don't join the MLM, make an MLM. Not to say this is an MLM in any way. I just mean: I am careful to stay in Producer mode. There are a LOT of consumers on this (like TikTok).
If anyone has any ideas about how to sell shovels here, I would love to serve this growing crowd.
TIPS
Your bio is where it's at. Optimize it (copy the successful and adapt).
It's connected to your Instagram account - that is where you can follow up with people you connect with.
Ask me anything about it; happy to help.
Kak and MJ, I'm following you now. Andy, what's your username?
MJ, Kak, Andy, anyone else... if you want to have a conversation in a room, just let me know.

Spontaneous. Bring serendipity to the internet.
Yes, that’s part of it. Having our feeds personalised has its pros and cons. From the article:
I think that other people share same sentiment that i had for some time
about so called "personalization" of every web app or site.
Basically everything is just waiting for user to click on some topic and boom - now you see this topic only, suggested in feeds or ads.
That is great PITA, because 1) Users click sometimes out of curiosity and not the "interest" in topic, 2) it doesn't allow to see anything beyond the previous clicks, making "one user bubble" - you only see topics that you have already seen.
Surprising (and optimistic) is thing that other people also hate those bubbles, actually. Makes you regain faith in humanity ( at least a bit)
I guess that's the main driver for it.Many people can’t get out and hear people chat in real-time. We can watch videos, listen to podcasts, or read, but that’s asynchronous communication, and a lot of people want to be there live and *part* of it.
