Verifying Market & Demand

Hi everyone. I have some ideas that I'm interested in pursuing (SAAS apps), and are a niche in a larger market. I'm not sure how to verify whether there is a demand for the ideas. What are some of your ways to verify whether a market exists or you should pursue the idea.

Would you be using the app yourself, or would you be totally in the dark dependent on what users say?

I think the very first step is actually talking to the market lol.. What they currently us and what bugs them about it. Most people can rapid fire complaints, especially the monotonous tasks they hate doing.
