The $100 bill used US govt currency paper-- had the watermark, striping, everything.<br /> <br /> So when you held it up, you saw everything. <div class="bbWrapper">Good question, where does it go?<br /> <br /> The first pic includes Mexican currency. The third picture had to have been taken in MX given the &quot;PGR&quot; is the federal agency in charge (you can see it on the paper on the wall).</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">Last month a teller at suntrust bank gave me a fake $50. when I brought it to bank of america to deposit, they informed me it was fake! <div class="bbWrapper">Russ -- Definitely not saying I believe it 100%, but if you had a country&#039;s government dedicate 100+ experts, and a couple $million in budget in order to counterfeit another country&#039;s currency... That sure would give them a head start over the Mom &amp; Pop guys trying to do this in their basement! haha (I&#039;m sure the new $100&#039;s have thrown them for a loop though!)<br /> <br /> Here are a couple of articles -- they are from awhile back:<br /> <br /> <a href="http://www.fas.org/news/iran/1992/920701-233652.htm" target="_blank" class="link link--external" rel="noopener">Iran, Syria Accused of Counterfeiting US Dollars</a><br /> <br /> &quot;&quot;Evidence has recently come to light that the governments of Iran and Syria are actively engaged in economic warfare against the United States through the production and dissemination of high-quality counterfeit dollar bills.&quot; The report describes a conspiracy arising from the ruins of the war between Iran and Iraq. Short of hard currency, the Iranian government allegedly launched counterfeiting operations to help the country rebuild. The Iranian government dismisses these charges. But there are counterfeits of such high quality found in the Middle East, they&#039;re called &quot;Supernotes.&quot; They have the raised ink feel of bills printed on intaglio presses, equipment generally owned by governments.&quot;<br /> <br /> <a href="http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/transcripts/2314secr.html" target="_blank" class="link link--external" rel="noopener">NOVA | Transcripts | Secrets of Making Money | PBS</a><br /> <br /> &quot;ROBERT LEUVER: Ninety percent of the presses that are used to print security paper come from one company, De la rue Giori in Switzerland. And, Iran has these presses. They obtained them in the 1970s, as many other countries throughout the world. Anybody that has this equipment has the same equipment the United States has, so it&#039;s not unthinkable that another country has these presses and is capable of using them if they want to subvert the US economy. Whether that&#039;s Iran or some other Middle Eastern country, I don&#039;t know. But the possibility exists.&quot;</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">Hak-<br /> <br /> Here&#039;s an article that talks about the paper used for US currency. Paper composition is what the pens test for, not print quality. And as the article mentions, many tellers and cashiers (folks who handle cash all day long) can immediately &quot;feel&quot; fake paper, since currency paper is so distinctive (it&#039;s actually cloth-- not paper!).<br /> <br /> <a href="http://www.wikihow.com/Detect-Counterfeit-US-Money" target="_blank" class="link link--external" rel="noopener">How to Detect Counterfeit US Money - wikiHow</a><br /> <br /> -Russ H.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">Russ, you are correct... a way to do it is to &quot;wash away&quot; the ink from $1 and $5 bills, and then print again as $50 and $100. Many bills could fool anybody... even bank tellers and long-time cashiers...</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">If I remember correctly, the history channel has a great show on the history of money and how people have tried and successful (for awhile) created and passed fakes. One guy in the London if I recall was living large for a long time before it caught up to him. I do remember them showing how some would take a $5 bill, wash it, dry it, then put the $100 on it. I think this method is what Russ was referring to as well and it can be very sneaky.<br /> <br /> They showed some small time crooks who were doing it like that....one guy had it down to a science but said he never tried to get rich from it. Pretty much would go in, pay for gas like a $20 bill (a real one). Walk out, turn right back around, say &quot;Oh, I need a pack of smokes&quot;, throw down another $20 and everything he got back was profit and the cashier usually would never check it cause they were sure it was real as he just had gave them a good one.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">If this guy bought a $200K car and paid cash, does that trigger a government flag? I can&#039;t remember.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">I have a Brother-in-Law who runs a high-end cemetery. He has had a few folks bury money in cemetery plots. (Pun intended.) You can buy several plots on payment terms, using cash to pay them over several months or years.<br /> <br /> When you need money, you just sell the plot back. Many times, appreciation earned you a decent return, since space is limited. At the time (not sure if that changed) it was a tax-free capital gain, since there was no tracking required.</div>
