When I first got into the mess of "being my own boss" it was a convoluted fuckery of 'what the hell is going on'.

On Facebook, I constantly get ad's of "guru's" parroting their new book. Want to get rich, read this! Want to have passive income "I will tell you how to do it"!

Now my skepticism led me to, if these people really were rich, why are they parroting these ad's? I don't see Bill Gates, or any other really rich people selling me ad's on facebook giving me advice. What's the deal here?

So then my research went to google. "People who made money then wrote a book about it". Very simple, right? Eventually it came to MJ.

Now I read his book on a simple search, no ads, it all made sense. I did some more background research, and yes, he made a lot of money then later WROTE A BOOK about HOW he did it. That's what I wanted. Not all that BS of "guru's" that made money off of selling 'how to make money' when they made the money off the book of how to make money.

They've become expert's. It almost seems like every time you search "how to make money" it's some 'guru' who made money off selling 'how to make money' when they didn't make money before they wrote 'how to make money'.

I still use Facebook and my feed still comes up with these 'guru's' advertising.

Sometimes, I'll entertain the idea and listen to them, but usually it's the same old crap. They talk about themselves for the first 6 chapter's, then go on to "how to do it".

Everytime I start listening to this crap, I always think in the back of my head -- this is nothing like what MJ said. He started a business, made money off it, then later wrote a book on how he did it. He didn't have to convince me of his credentials, because I already knew it before even starting it.

So now I'm so skeptical of all these books.

There are still lots of people out there who did do the work that qualified them to write books on 'getting there'.
Some names that come to mind were Jay Abraham and Dan Pena. Read some of their stuff and found lots of good insights.
So don't be so sore....there are still some good books out there.

But yup, Google ranking is an ass to hate...when ranking based on popularity is garnered by eyeballs and moneychasing trends lol. So you get whatever people are crazy about at the top of the page, which is not always gold and rubies.

On detecting BS authors, I found this good checklist drawn up by John T Reed. He used this list to successfully smoke out Kiyosaki and his rehash series. The list is more towards checking out real estate gurus, but it has some gems. Have a look.

Thank you, I really appreciate it. The more and more I see the guru game, the more I want to retire (again) from this line of focus.

I really enjoy spreading my message. But I really hate being in this space.

At some point will I need to do a hand-held iPhone video in front of my sprawling mansion that just so happens to have the garage open with luxury cars inside? I hope not.

I always try telling people about Millionaire Fastlane and Unscripted and I feel like it’s hard to convince people that MJ has never once tried upselling seminars, masterminds or coaching.

Gurus kind of ruin the business coaching game because it’s only a funnel to them.

There are still a lot of books out there with proves from gurus. Don't get it twisted.

I agree. I’ve recommended both books to many of my friends, and they almost always wave me off. Because I care about them I stay on their ass until they give up and get one of them, then MJ takes it from there and I get an invariable “holy shit, thank you for making me read this.”

The unfortunate part is there are a lot of gullible people out there who snap up these 997 dollar courses and line the pocket of these gurus.

    Info products are valuable.

In ANY seriously competitive arena or area where there is a perception of competition there are info products, coaching, and guru's.

If you are not buying info products or reading them from the library or Internet cafe you are not interested in succeeding.

Even $19.95 or $4.95 books or courses count as info products if they teach something.

If someone sells a $6k package for an info product, it's not about the information entirely or even in a major way. It's about the motivation and commitment plus the fear of loss from failing at continuing with the info product.

Sink some cash into something that hurts financially and you'll do your best to make it work. It's motivation.

Many times it's not even about the info. It's about the motivation. The information was probably free somewhere like at the library.

MJ's book is. You bought it though.

Buying it gave you motivation hopefully.

I've read some "books" that people claim are valuable. Those books usually have been nothing more than fluff.

However, I've never heard of an [insert $$$$ or $$$$$] info product by a serious authority that is crap.

If they don't hard sell their products then they don't get hate.

Tai Lopez gets a lot of hate that he doesn't deserve. He's just a hard seller. So many people hate on him and haven't even seen his material.

He hard sells so there will be blowback. It's just like a used car salesman.

I also imagine they (the haters) are all broke as well mentally, physically, spiritually, and/or financially if they have time to hate on him instead of count money and live life.

I remember watching one of his content videos, not a hard sell video, which talks about the kind of person you envision yourself to be.

It was an hour of him explaining in great detail that many "so - called" entrepreneurs never pick up a book on business theory, accounting, finance, language learning, [insert valuable skill].

Imagine if you knew Krav Maga, Ju Jitsu, Aikido, business theory, accounting, finance, selling, copywriting; spoke 15 languages as a true polyglot; were able to run a marathon at will; reached near pinnacle levels of bodyweight training for functional strength; understood what "enlightenment" really was; held multiple licenses and certifications in aerial and seas navigation; and trained in armed combat.

You couldn't be put in a single place on this Earth where you couldn't survive where there are people.

Add survival skills and you could be the last man standing.

    You think this is impossible?

The human brain can hold as much information as the internet is currently at and will be at for the next 10 years or something.

All that stuff I listed is info.

I don't know any serious entrepreneur who hasn't picked up an info product of some kind.

What if you knew all of that stuff though? Would you be any different if you didn't have the motivation and weren't a completionist?

I'm sure people would pay 6 or 7 figures for a course like that. You can learn all that stuff for much less, but the motivation for something that high value and costly would be enormous.

I imagine every student would be a success because they'd have to make it work.

Turn it into a hard sell instead of a passive luxury though, and it would become the next most hated information on the planet. Make it super exclusive without revealing information and it becomes coveted.

Think Raya the dating app versus Tinder.

Edit: I'm also not affiliated with any guru. I do believe conferences, courses, books, masterminds etc are all super valuable.

Some of the most valuable information is walled behind money. This is not perceived. This is usually fact.

Early adopters to trends know more than you. If you're a laggard or large majority then you'll know way less and won't be nearly as close to the channeling.

Not sure I need a book to do that...

    1) Never stop learning.
    2) Learn how to question authority
    3) Learn how to question established rules of normality, especially when the those rules are implied social contracts, not actual laws.
    4) Treat life as a game, not a movie
    5) Trust your gut.
    6) The wisdom of the crowd works for mathematics in finding the median, but in life, it finds itself in the median as well, AKA, mediocrity.
    7) Opportunity is everywhere when you look at is as incremental problem solving.

    I could go on...
