I feel it's just a nice round number that they can mentally justify.
Serving bigger clients with bigger budgets may be a solution, but another solution could be figuring out how to stack those £500/mth clients, and/or upsell them on other services that bring even more business.
There's a limit to the amount of work a sole-trader can do, so it makes sense that they'll max out at some point. Some will then hire others, and some will decide not to.
Do you get the feeling that sole traders can be quite erratic? If there's a dry season they can panic and over react?
Best results I get is when the client is relaxed, not desperate and understands leads naturally go up and down.
I have been dabbling with creating reels. It's fun to film these guys in their natural element - and it's easy to justify the service if they get good views and more subs. Social media can generate leads - though it's harder to measure.
