I guess I have to stick to the cooldown phase before bed more religiously.

@Intax I'm going to wait with my answer as well now. Seems like you're having your hands full at the moment anyway. Have fun at the summit!

Learning Mandarin/Cantonese
Some Sunday convo with a Grab driver on the virus and masks lol...

Somehow I'm sleeping late more often in the 2-3am zone.
Gotta go to bed at latest 1 am!

I'm thinking my regular copywriting practice is eating into my Upwork gigs...so I'll still track its progress, but I won't harp on it as much.

I'm going to resume posting on Quora and see if I can revive it in any way, so I'll see if I can do 2 posts a day. That will go under Fastlane activities.

As for my Mandarin practice, although it's been a snail-pace, I've noticed that I've been not progressing by reading books or watching videos, but by regular conversation with other people.

Maybe it's good...but the reason why I want to practice the language is because my vocab is relatively poor.

Even if I can talk with what I know, I'd be just using the same old stuff, and not learning up new stuff.

I'll see if I can bump up on the 'consumption' part, and find a meetup.com group for conversational Mandarin. The groups I have found so far in my city have meetings fortnightly though...not as often as I'd like.

things are working out less and less. I need to declutter the things I track a bit and overthink my systems. Already did that to a degree in fact. I forget to do things far too often because I've been too lazy to account for that with my systems, but that needs to get better now

Thanks for keeping up with the tracker!

What is ‘ventilation’ though?

And you forgot ‘hygiene’ quite a number of times...what do you do for ‘hygiene’?
Face care?

At least, face care (washing face, applying pore minimisers and monitoring acne) is one habit I do regularly, but I don’t track it because it’s already solid for me.

I ‘locked on’ that habit by simply putting the soap or face products right in my bathroom, and chaining them to after-bath habits.

And as for stuff like ‘occupied with right thoughts’ and ‘mood, outlook, character’....what do you track there?

Lots of good and bad thoughts or moments happen every minute, and not every one of them may be very significant (until they compound).

I think it’s fine to have bad thoughts or poor moments now and then...more importantly it’s how we react or recover.

@ZF Lee Thank you too man! And thanks for the feedback
Chaining is a good idea. For now I try to solve it by batching more minor tasks together. Also incorparating things I tend to forget more explicitly into my daily planning.
Yeah it's mostly face care
With ventilation i mean airing my work environments for better ogygen supply. A minor thing that might affect performance, which is why I started tracking it.

When it comes to good/bad thoughts, it's relative I guess. Problem is that I think about far too much dumb shit during the day that I don't even want to think about. I now instead try to think about things that I want my life to be about, or to put it better, that I'm trying to want my life to be about..
People like to point out how important focus is for success. By filling my head with the right thoughts, I'm trying to both feel better by filling my life with the right content and at the same time create more focus.

"‘mood, outlook, character’", is kind of measuring my happiness, fun, how mindful I am, if I'm just going through the motions or if I manage to generate excitement etc.
Also If I'm very disciplined and diligent, I often get into this strict and sterile mindset or persona, where I corset myself too tight and forget about having fun. I'm just trying to counteract that a bit.

So I basically just track things that I think might be important. Not sure how effective that is if I don't manage to actually pull things off consistently though
In contrast, I must say I'm impressed by your overall consistency, keep up the good work man!

What do you mean by "resume posting on Quora" by the way?

Just answering Quora questions related to my field

Business (if I have encountered such a situation before), academics, life stories, etc.

It’s funny, but in a way, you can practice and apply copywriting principles and congruence to better the writing.

And it is actually a great place to network, if you know how to follow-up on commenting, DMs and branch out into outside meetings. I had some great moments doing that thing informally.

Quora has recently released Spaces, where folks can put up more formal articles than just one-off...but I won’t write there for now. Response for even the more well-known writers there seem to be bland.

In a man's meetup I attended recently, we discussed 'Priorities'.
Picked up some nuggets.

Apparently, Warren Buffet or some top guys just have a small 3-5 pointer list to-dos that MUST be done every day, to be considered 'mission accomplished'.

They do have other stuff for the day to do of course, but they are kept on a secondary list.

Me thinks that I should trim my current habits on track to just 3-5, and the others be relegated to a secondary list of priorities.

I'd expect to start shifting my habits tracker format by the coming week.

Got ill on Friday (although really not very ill at all) and used that as a pretext to break the schedule and work less strictly. The next day I had a very distracting debate. Day after that I had a lazy day where I tried to get back on track, but got almost no work done. The next two days I decided to do gaming ..

I think I'm going to take a break from tracking, because at the moment I don't see the point, I'm just going through the motions and fail most of the tasks anyway. Everything is somehow way too overengineered or chaotic. That I continued with this system this long is probably a testament of what a dumb autist I am

Perhaps I will return with more clarity, or perhaps not. I want to thank all people here who supported me! Wish you all the best!

Thanks for calling me out @bornoim. To be honest, things are going quite well for me at the moment -- but I have a nasty tendency to abandon formative habits (like tracking) when I have a lot of momentum going. I'll get back on track.

Welp, with the virus mahogany and politics in my country going out of whack, work still continues...

Update for 17/2/20 (Mon) to 24/2/20 (Mon)

GOALS
-cook at least THREE times a week-MET

-Take supplements TWO times a day- MET

-sleep at least 6 hrs a night- MET

As I said in my last post, I would not only be cutting down my list of habits to track, but also re-arrange them in order of priorities.

New format is as follows:

Top Habits to track and their Goals:
-No. of copy projects worked on (practice, or in ongoing client work):

Do at least ONE email/copy piece a day

-Prayer/Bible:
Write in prayer journal and Bible study notes at least 3X a week.

-Sleeping and wake time:
Sleep latest by 1 AM, and wake up 8.30-ish in the morning every day

-Mandatory read of ONE business book:
A few pages/chapters a day. Currently on Ray Dalio's Big Debt Crises

Secondary habits to track:
-Gym:

at least 2 times a week

-Supplements:
Take at least 3X a day

-Mandarin practice:
Talking/listening/reading/watching...still haven't come up with a solid goal yet

-Follow-ups and new networking

-Online courses/books progression

Will begin this from Tuesday today, in a fresh Excel sheet.
May adjust as time goes on.

EDIT: Adjusted daily supplements habit from 3X to 2X a day, because of a healing reaction. Will see if things improve from there.

UPDATE for 25/2 - 1/3/2020

Habits:
At least ONE copywriting work a day:
NOT MET
Only done on 27/2 (Thurs) and 1/3 (Sun)

Write in prayer journal and Bible study notes at least 3X a week:

MET

-Sleeping and wake time:
Sleep latest by 1 AM, and wake up 8.30-ish in the morning every day:

NOT MET, fell apart after the first 2 days

-Mandatory read of ONE business book:
Covered up to Chapter 8 in Jim Edward's Copywriting Secrets book.
Feared that it was another rehash shit, but thankfully, it wasn't.

Had some good pointers on what 'benefits vs features' actually meant, and constructing the customer avatar.

In light of the current financial mayhem, and my country's political crap, I'm probably going to extend my readings to maybe study 1 company's financial reports a day. It's my first actually footing in investing, but I think some interesting buys may be up for grabs, now that people have sold and ran.

I'll also look into hedging strategies, I remember JScott talked about put options.

Secondary habits to track:
-Gym:

at least 2 times a week:
NOT MET

-Supplements:
Take at least 3X a day:
MET until Thurs, when I had a suspected healing reaction
So I'm gonna cut it down to 2X a day, and see what happens.

-Mandarin practice:
NOT MET

UPDATE for 2/3 - 8/3/2020

Habits:
At least ONE copywriting work a day:

Met except for Tues and Wed

Write in prayer journal and Bible study notes at least 3X a week:
MET

-Sleeping and wake time:
Sleep latest by 1 AM, and wake up 8.30-ish in the morning every day:

Generally woke up latest 10 am, mostly around the 9am mark, but sleeping hours eat into the 2am region. Can't do much about it, as sometimes I get into the work-mood by then, and US finance news come in my email at that time.

-Mandatory read of ONE business book:
Still digesting the Jim Edwards book.

Finished up the 1st edition of Stop Being Poor by A.R Morton (Ben Settle had an affiliate eBook bundle sale)- mostly about budgeting and arranging side jobs. Typically I never read money books that scream 'Slowlane', but Ben offered a swipe file of some very interesting sales letters from his Email Players as a side bonus.

I was baited in lol.

(That guy is crazy good...Ben wrote some ads for his fiction books in comic-form, like Marvel or the Sea Monkeys. Very interesting ad format!)

The eBooks are quick reads, and not as wretched as I'd fear. I liked his recommended percentage allocations to various expenses.

Now looking through the 2nd edition part of the book, which goes into a quick overview of the basics of stocks, REITS, options and the portfolio.

Secondary habits to track:
-Gym:

at least 2 times a week:
NOT MET

-Supplements:
Take 2X a day:
MET

-Mandarin practice:
Mostly from listening to eulogies at a recent funeral of a contact...
I'm slipping up here...can't rely on random crap to get me through...

Networking:
Follow-ups: 20
Newly met: 6

Overall, the only things I'm concerned about are my Mandarin practice and gym-going.

For the former, all I need to do is to hop over to Mandarin-speaking folks during networking sessions, but that's not something I can track 100% for crumb-to-crumb progress.

For the latter...I suddenly realised I made a rookie mistake of not setting FIXED DAYS for gym. I'll go to gym on Fridays and weekends.

The other habits thankfully have some form of fixed times, except for sleeping (whenever I get in the mood to work later into the night)

Not sure if it was such a great idea to quit posting here. Did way too much gaming recently ..
I finished a smaller project today and sent a bunch of applications, plan to send more the next couple of days.
I also decided to play through a game the next couple of days ... something I actually wanted to avoid. I only wanted to play for a week or so if I actually have a job. Anyways, if I F*ck up again and play even more than that, I will post here again.

Well, with most countries (mine included) enforcing curfews over the virus, we'd have a bit more time to ourselves.

But we'll have to be even more caution on how we use our time, now that we have more of it to ourselves.

My own university studies are being pushed to online Moodle.
But response has been poor.
I went to one Zoom call to discuss a unit assignment, and even though it was supposed to be for ALL the students, I was the ONLY ONE on the call besides the prof.

For my group assignments, I've emailed folks on whether I can join their groups.
And got ZERO reply.

Ditto for the discussion forums on the Moodle.
Kids are gonna F*ck over their education not by a mere disease, but by not keeping up with habits and work.

Anyhow...

Change of strategy. Instead of relying on checklists, I'll now work with the almighty counter. I simply count the consecutive days where I manage to achieve something, for example meditate a sufficient amount of time. If I fail one day, the counter is reset to 0.
I'll post my counters here every week.

Hygiene
Meditation
No Gaming
Schedule
0
0
0
0

The goal is to establish permanent, uninterrupted habits by getting the counters to 270 and higher

Whatever, going cold turkey on gaming seems to be too hard at the moment, so I'll game at the end of the day while still trying to have a productive workday. It's far, far from ideal, but that's how I handled it a year ago too, so .. it's supposed to be possible.
In case I play more than I should, I'll report that here too

Uncovered LOTS of gaps in my freelancing stuff, especially proposals, after reviewing Lex's new courses on the matter.

I only regret not being able to do the proposal drafts, with the course material hand-in-hand.

I just couldn't do two things at one go....so I had to look through everything, before doing it.

Thank goodness they are just Udemy courses though, and not Bible-thick lol.

More university projects are popping their ugly heads up, and my peers are even less vocal now on encouraging one another onwards, even online...

I would like to take the lead and speak up, but after one too many Zoom live calls where my lecturers and I were the only folks talking, I'm out.

To be really disappointed in the younger generation is an understatement. But a degree has to be finished...

Habits:
At least ONE copywriting work a day:

NONE done except Fri

Write in prayer journal and Bible study notes at least 3X a week:
MET

-Mandatory read of ONE business book:
Zilch.

Secondary habits to track:
-Gym:

Still Dead...

-Supplements:
Take 2X a day:
Supply of my usual supplements was expected, had to change them up...
Took some vitamin/digestives at least once a day, except Mon (30/3)

EDIT: Didn't realise I put the wrong dates for heading above...changed to 30/3 to 5/4

@ZF Lee I admire your commitment to tracking, even in these rocky times.

I can't let my habits dwindle. Time to track. I have lowered the number of metrics to make this process easier.

Thanks for the support.

TBH, there's more behind the scenes of the statistics than I can share here.
I'll just hint that during these times, even as families are stuck together in curfews, they are more likely to fight and impact each other negatively, just as they are likely to form better bonds.

Unfortunately, where I am, my situation may fall in the former.

How to tune out the negativity and quarrels of family?

Work, wherever I can.
Even on habits.

And yeah, trimming down the habits does wonders! You may be able to up their quality easier.

Bible Reading progress
I'm sad to say that I've slid off.
I find myself hurrying and scrambling thru the Holy Writ.

I'm wondering how to have some quality reading, with all the work in store.
I can do stuff like hear sermons while I work, or cut it down to bite-sizes, but it doesn't feel right...will try a different practice, here and there.

College work vs freelancing
Even when clients are getting more unresponsive to calls, I'm hopping on to new platforms like PPH, or planning on having my own website and marketing to make sure I don't go starving.

Unfortunately, the college projects have begun to pile up.
And it's not because of poor time management.

For two of my units, I have to learn Weka and Tableau.
And it didn't take me long to find out how un-intuitive and even archaic these data software are, even on the marketplace!

Weka may have been the one of the first data mining tools around, but the documentation and UI are simply abhorrent.

Tableau's calculation tools are also atrocious.

The assignments are not impossible to do, but they eat hours of work to solve problem after problem.

I don't mind that if I get paid for the problems I solve, but this is F*cking college work we are talking about, not an Upwork milestone.

Gee, might as well offer data visualization and analytics as a service on Upwork.

Damn, managed to fight off a slew of horrendous college work.
I could rant all day about how my group assignment peers literally fell to pieces, jumping into to work scrappily together till the last sec lol.

Anyway, Upwork suddenly started erupting with work, with a surprise client offer, with lots of work on board (and format/campaign suggestions).

So I missed updating the habits tracker by one week lol...

I will be taking a break off this tracker for a few weeks, something I haven't done in a long while.

Having some hard personal issues to settle.
