Did well the whole day, but had mad cravings for waffles at the end of the day. I think I might update this thread every week instead of daily, just so it's less annoying.

Today marks the fourth day that I'm sticking to this routine. I've learned a lot about myself after just implementing the first day for this plan. For one, I've got to continue to increase my time on the Fastlane and decrease my time spent on social media.

I've replaced my Slowlane work column because I quit my job due to how hard I was getting screwed over in the grand scheme of things. In the past two weeks, I already had to go to the ER because I took a mean fall on my head while riding my bike to work (thank god I wore a helmet and nothing too bad happened). Just yesterday I nearly lost my left eye cause some burning oil splashed into it. The thing that really made me call it was when I saw my paycheck. I've got an alternative job for my financial situation so there's no real worries there.

Been thinking about changing my sleep schedule since I no longer have to work from 5PM - 12AM. Might try to change it to be like @458 since the 4AM-9PM routine seems more beneficial than a 8AM-1AM.

I'll be trying to head to the gym a bit more often since I've been lacking there. Looking forward to how I'll keep changing.

From the amount I achieved this week was bad. The last couple of days I changed some important things in my work process though, the most important one is that I now work with strict time constraints, which hopefully makes me work more effectively. The last few weeks I have adopted an identity where I see myself as someone who works much. What I try to do now however is to see myself as someone who works effectively and fast, as that's much more important.

I think I also improved in time estimates, which have always been a great weakness of mine. I divide each task into subtaks to a reasonable degree, set a time limit for the task and each subtask, try to make sure that I don't forget anything, then use techniques like mental contrasting to check if I really believe I can make it in time, and if not I change the time limit. Parkinsons law and a bit of hofsteadter adjustment take care of the rest.. well at least it worked out well yesterday, today I guess I again underestimated the complexity of introducing user management to my website (login, logout etc.), need to plan such things better.

Apart from that, I also realized that there are a lot of things I tend to postpone, which can be set up quickly. Examples include ...

...

urm never mind

It's almost been a week since I started this disciplinary schedule. While I do like the results that have been going on with my health, I can't say the same for my progress towards the Fastlane. Things have been pretty slow and I haven't been able to net myself sustainable gigs on Upwork. I feel pretty crappy for not doing as much reading as I'd like to and there's no excuses for it considering I've sunk 3-5 hours each day just wasting my time on social media. I might not think much of it in the moment but looking back, that's 11 hours that I'll never be able to get back in my life.

I strongly suggest anyone who hasn't participated to start counting their hours spent on social media or anything that gets them nothing but short term entertainment. Once you start seeing the numbers add up, hopefully that'll be enough motivation to make you want to change.

Alright, covering the last week's metrics from 14-20 October:

GOALS
-cook at least THREE times a week-
NOT MET

-Take supplements TWO times a day- MET, except for 1 day

-sleep at least 6 hrs a night- MET, but sleeping hours still ate into the more productive hours of the morning, I'm somehow still working too late into the night

-one email/sales copy breakdown- NOT MET, fell to pieces

-at least one hr A DAY on studying for college-NOT MET

-at least one hr A DAY on college projects-MET, but more on this later

-Read up to THREE educational emails a day (not including email copywriting ones from Settle or AWAI)- MET

-walk more than 1000 steps- MET

-go to gym at least 2 times a week- NOT MET

Now, here's what happened with my college assignments (I mentioned in my last post that I was expecting a fallout)

It was an investment analyst report, and I was supposed to take a stock, use various models to predict a higher/shorter price at X date to support a long/short position for investors.

Very simple actually, but because of biasesness in my initial approach, as well as underestimating the actual scope of research needed, I had to blow through Thursday night to Friday morning, skipping much sleep to meet the 6pm deadline on Friday.

Very stupid use of my time.

I just got note I have another Commercial Banking quiz the coming Friday, plus several deadline for a group presentation and Forecasting report.

The last, I have already provided provisions for.
The first two are tough cookies. We'll see about Monday to Wednesday, as to how I can break them up into manageable chunks.

On the other hand, I went to Chick-Fil-A executive talks at a church, invited by a men's group.
I went on Monday and Tuesday evening.

Good to learn a bit of their operative principles, but those sessions ate into hours I was supposed to use for doing stuff, especially for copywriting practice. Oh, you give and take, I guess.

The same was true of Saturday-morning was another talk on 'living in uncertainty' by the man's group again. It was good to follow up on a few guys there who have began to see me as a regular of sorts (forgot to update the follow-up metric for that number of pax)

I noticed that my Bible reading and prayer are not spread out as it was in the last few weeks.
Especially the former.

After keeping time on my Bible reading, somehow the qualitative part of it becomes interesting.

I've began to notice a change in my Bible reading approach.

Not only do I have to worry about just taking time off to read it, but also to understand the context in the Holy Writ.

Example:

-Past references to the Old Testament
-Recurring prophecies of similar themes
-understanding your Greek and Hebrew
-relating back to personal experience and needs

So I've found that it takes more than a toilet or lunch break to sit down, read and truly comprehend, as if I really want the most out of my devotionals, I'd have to do a shit ton of research and reflection- probably at least half-hour of concentration.

If I spread them out too wide, my concentration could be scattered.

EDIT: As for eating homecooked, I just looked at my budget and recording spendings, and I found out eating out has pretty much cut my budget to pieces.

It's not so much of a problem of cheap shopping for food, as it is with timing.

If I get really engrossed with work (or oversleep) around 5-7pm, I would be less likely to cook.

I noticed that I'm tracking things that I shouldn't be tracking, only going to keep the things that are really want to be doing every day (none of this "3 x week" shit)

Notes for this week:
- I usually plan to visualize during the morning but it's very hard because I want to go straight to work.

It's been nine days since I first started doing this routine. The past three days have been really good, especially the 19th and the 20th. I did great at the gym and made plenty of progress in terms of my fastlane business. Today's off to a slow start though since I woke up at 8:02AM. Thinking I might have messed something up in my upper back or I'm not sleeping right. Either way, that needs to be worked on.

I'm changing the sleep routine of 4AM-9PM and am gonna change that to 5AM-9PM as that falls more in line with my roommates work schedule, that way it's the best of both worlds. I've been falling behind on reading ever since I finished the first book, so I'm gonna spend some time to take care of that. If anyone's curious, I'll lay out my usual routine when it comes to workouts. I'll also take some time to explain my goals since just putting "Yes" or "No" doesn't really explain much.

In terms of my actual goals, I'll define them short term so it doesn't feel like I'm not making any progress at all. I'll only consider my goals done for the day if I can do three or more of them.
  • Read 30+ Pages
  • Work out
  • Wake up AND fall asleep at a reasonable time (5AM - 9PM for me)
  • Gained 3+ more lbs from the previous day AND stay near 13% or less body fat (Goal body weight is 180lbs)
  • Do an hour or more work to the Fastlane business
  • Waste less than 3 hours on social media
  • Eat healthily during the day, no junk meals or anything with very little nutritional value
All of these goals aren't impossible. The hard part is to do three or more of them, but that's what separates the achievers from the action fakers.

Today marks the 12th day that I've started this routine, I'm glad that I'm still going at it but there's a lot that needs to be worked on. For one, my sleep schedule has gotten all messed up again, I shouldn't be waking up so damn late into the morning if I get to bed around 9PM. I'll need to setup more alarms or something since I couldn't hear my first one today. Another problem that I've been dealing with was trying to find a reason to get up, I've been in a depressive slump. Of course, I can't use that to justify myself sleeping in so long. No excuses.

I'm happy that I'm doing more progress towards my Fastlane business than just having discussions every now and then, it actually feels like I'm doing progress.

Been falling behind in terms of going to the gym, haven't been able to go with my gym bud as of recent, which really sucks. My diet's gonna suffer pretty hard since I'm gonna be restricted to ramen cups and saltine crackers until the next paycheck.

I'm gonna be changing the frequency of my posts from three days to an entire week so it doesn't seem like I just keep spamming the thread.
My wake up time and time spent doing other activities has really gone south. I know I should be waking up at earlier times but I'm honestly struggling to find any reasons to get up in the morning. My fastlane business ideas are all shot down and I'm just meeting failure after failure. Any progress that I make towards my weight is turned around a day later because I just end up losing all the weight I gain. I'm consistent sure, but I'm having a rough time continuing with everything.

Oh dear!

Is it not possible to go to a discount place or local market for potatoes, beans and pasta?

I'm not so sure about places in your area, but for mine, the cheapest place I can go to would be Tesco or even KMart. The former works well to buy in bulk, and when they have clearance sales, prices hit as low as RM5 for a couple of bread packs, freshness aside.

Unfortunately, the only place that's really worthwhile is Kroger. My roommates do buy in bulk from Costco every now and then, but we're dealing with a bunch of bills ranging from rent to medical. We could get some cheap fast food, but more sodium won't be doing us any favors.

The good news is that it should only be this way for a little while. Once me and my roommates get our paychecks, we should be able to get more nutritional meals.

Last week I followed through and successfully tracked everything. This makes me realize that I am much more likely to achieve one goal than seven. This week, my goal is to nofap for the full seven days. I've attempted this before but never on its own. The isolation should bring me focus.

Alright, the week's update

GOALS
-cook at least THREE times a week-
MET

-Take supplements TWO times a day- MET, except for 1-2 days, which only had around 1 supplement taken at least

-sleep at least 6 hrs a night- MET, except for 1-2 nights when I had to finish up projects on the fly

-one email/sales copy breakdown- PARTIALLY MET. Didn't meet goal for Mon and Tues, but somehow got to 're-fire' the habit around Wednesday, and continued it for the rest of the week.

-at least one hr A DAY on studying for college-NOT MET. Kind of dangerous, especially with finals in the next few weeks. Might temporarily track hours and milestones on Excel for this as well lol.

-at least one hr A DAY on college projects-MET, got loads done like a last-minute presentation, a graded banking quiz (got 17/20 for topics on Derivatives and Capital Adequacy topics, so yay?), a Forecasting with ARIMA report

-Read up to THREE educational emails a day (not including email copywriting ones from Settle or AWAI)- MET, more on that later

-walk more than 1000 steps- MET

-go to gym at least 2 times a week- NOT MET

Notables:
Add-on to my educational emails list

As part of last week's investment analyst report for college, in order to learn report styles and get investment data, Reddit folks recommended lots of sites, among them was Seeking Alpha.

I subbed my email to 4-5 of them. Most of them had free newsletters.

Seeking Alpha had much better content and outstanding headlines, so I went to have a look.
It's great to start our on due diligence in stocks, with writers examining the ratios, industry overview and so on.

Stocks are typically Slowlane, but I feel reading Seeking Alpha stuff can help me gain an eye for the finance side of UNSCRIPTION, financial copywriting (if I want to hit that button) and inform me of possible trends and business decisions related to corp's products and services.

They have a few recent analysis on what Google and Twitter did wrong to not meet earnings, but what Microsoft did right, which were a lot more detailed than I expected. I was afraid the website would be another freelancer-copy-paste rehash.

Generally happy with the results so far, but I feel many processes can be upped.

I'll have a week's break before final exams begin, but that should give me time to study, and get attuned better with my existing habits.

On prayer and Bible study habits, I noticed a huge gap in the middle of the week.
I guess its due to a mix of a lag in reviewing and reflecting the Word that I somehow didn't track for hours, plus procrastination.

I'm seeing that I'm additionally also actually taking the latest Sunday sermon into study and review later, looking through the primary and secondary verses and yeah...lots more study and reflection.

Sad thing that it's not something I was taught to do from young, and rarely do older folks do this.

Typically I would write my summaries or takeaways of the Holy Writ, and then send a copy to my girl for accountability.
I'm grateful she looks into them.

I've been going at this for nearly a month now, can't say much has improved. Things aren't getting better in terms of mood. I'm reconnecting with my old friends to keep me entertained but had to scrap any ideas for whatever business ideas I had in mind simply because they were unrealistic.

It's been rough trying to keep on going as I felt that I've reached the lowest point in my entire life. With no car or no steady means of getting to or from places, I'm heavily restricted for job opportunities. I would have kept biking to work if my old bike didn't break on me, nearly giving me a concussion. I've been rolling around the thought of moving back into my parents place but I honestly feel like I'd be wasting space just being there.

I don't know how long it'll take before I get a breakthrough and figure things out. Can't help but feel like it only gets bleaker from here.

So I had to travel a whole lot rectently, which is also why I missed the last report. Basically I didn't get anything done, I'm trying to get back on track now, hopefully renewed (although I feel like I need a vacation from the vacation) and with fresh approaches and ideas, or not whatever. Hopefully also another opportunity to get more serious about certain shit, like controlling my mind and ego the whole day and not getting mad about things in the past.

Update for 27 Oct to 3 Nov 2019
My college exams season has come upon me, but I'll continue this tracker.

Goals:
-cook at least THREE times a week-
MET

-Take supplements TWO times a day- MET, except for Tues and Wed

-sleep at least 6 hrs a night- MET, still managed to wake 8-10am on mornings now, but can do better on the waking up part

-one email/sales copy breakdown- MET, except for Wed

-at least one hr A DAY on studying for college-NOT MET until Friday, more explained later

-at least one hr A DAY on college projects-defunct

-Read up to THREE educational emails a day (not including email copywriting ones from Settle or AWAI)- MET

-walk more than 1000 steps- MET

-go to gym at least 2 times a week- NOT MET

NEW GOAL: Prayer journal/ Bible reading or sharing -> Do at least 5 times a week
This week, I only did 4 days.

The real standard, without discussing the demands of the Holy Writ, is that prayer/Bible should be done EVERY DAY (think about regular communication), but since I'm currently into exams season, I'll have to lighten a bit. I'll ramp this up later.

I somehow find it F*cking hard to put up with the gym habit, even if its just for cardio, and the gym is really nearby.

I guess my upcoming exams prep doesn't make it any easier to scavenge this habits, even if I wanted to.

As for studying for exams, I could only start it so late, on Friday (my first exam begin tomorrow), because sudden errands came up, which my brother, who is staying with me, just wouldn't do out of laziness and a ton of shitty habits and decisions that could be a thread by itself.

So, I had to do the errands because they were linked to family, grandparents and so on.

Required lots of travelling and some repair work, and overseeing contractors.

I usually would enforce a 'non-tolerance' policy whenever it comes to exam prep- I would usually tell everyone in my life to F*ck off so that I can study well, but this time, since I was the only person who could oversee the works, I had to be present to do it.

Shame that sometimes you are left to do all the work sometimes.

Tonight, I'm going to have to rush a few chapters on Commercial Banking exam revision, and they aren't exactly my most comfortable topics.

Still, my lecturer had the good foresight to have graded quizzes on all topics throughout the semester, so we could buff up our practices and learning processes decently.

On my brother....he's older than me, but living with him even as students, is like a comparison between Fastlane and Sidewalk all right.

I'll probably have to consider moving out, against my parent's wishes of 'brothers loving each other'. I've no problems living on my own, having done it before, and I have found a few rental rooms at around a few hundred a month for small rooms, but that would cause a huge rift in the family.

I'll have to revise my Upwork strategies again, and other matters, after the college exams.

But I think he relied too much on MCQs for questions on the quizzes. He could do well to put more open-ended questions.

I'm glad I could keep up with prayer journals and Bible, even in this packed time, as well as with my copywriting practice.

There were many times in the week I was tempted to 'just let it go', but I said 'no' , and just cracked open the Word docs, and started working.

Hey @bornoim I took a minute to check your last posts in this thread and I think you never posted any results of tracking, right?

Even when your week was bad I'm convinced that the tracking itself is an important habit which leads to self-reflection about what you wanna do and what you did do.

So start tracking with some specific habits on a list and post it.

Yeah my performance is bad and I could write down the excuse that my parents visited my but that won't help anyone. So let's come to the important part:

What will I do to improve my results?

  • A friend of mine recognized that I'm not meeting my weekly plan when somebody visits me. - In the future I will make clear that I wanna work and just cut time with the person visiting me. Like this my plan won't suffer to much

@FastNAwesome - I'm glad you are back but I wanna see a posting next week!
(my pm answer will take some time)

Will do, thank you! Wanted to track stuff for a while now, as i too believe it would make me more consistent. I think this week I'll finally take the time to set it up (I've caught a cold anyway, and don't have much energy for my main project). God knows the whole travelling around has been a waste of time.

So I've got my tracking system more or less set up, but I'm not going to track anything the next days. I haven't touched a video game for half a year, but now this pc game came out that I really wanted to try and which will likely not cause any addiction because it's more .. 'cerebral' in nature. I'm just going to play it through and get it over with the next days (so I'm not distracted by it any more) and only do a couple of hours of work per day on the side while I'm doing this.

To summarize your line of thought: you want to stop playing video games (I assume after you haven't played it for half a year).
Your plan to stay consistent in resistance of video games is by breaking your consistency by over indulging in a video game (finishing it in some days).

And all this is your excuse for not tracking your habits (which would lead to become the person you want to become and live the life you want to live.)

Mhhh interessting approach - maybe I can apply it as well.
(hopefully you get the irony)

Correct me if I misunderstood your message but if I understood you right then I suggest you to overthing why you are part of this community and what are your priorities in your life.
