I just quickly saw that something went wrong with the demonstration (not sure what), and I was like "someone's getting fired" lol

Publicity stunt. His truck reveals on every news outlet now. When they start selling them in two years he'll get new headlines for free about the fix. Musk knows how to play the media to keep his stock value up.

It's f*ckin ugly! C'mon.

Didn't seem like it was planned.. it looked genuine and he did say before that he never prepares for the live events anyway. He handled it well all things considered.

His number two (the tall guy breaking the windows) seemed kinda shocked to me and even asked 'You sure?' before.

Big F*ck up from their part since they marketed it as unbreakable but at least everyone it's talking about it now.

It's all scripted! "Oh, let's do another glass." They make you look like it's an accident.

You said the thing they wanted to achieve with it: everyone is talking about it now.

It has to be said, whatever you think of Elon, this 'thing', or how horribly the presentation went...

I'm a car guy, and this release has got EVERYONE I know talking about this car. I mean, even my family and friends who have ZERO interest in cars other than an A-B method have been talking about it.

Some people mention how ugly it is, others laugh at the 'bulletproof' glass issue, but either way, when was the last Ferrari/McLaren/Lambo, or any other manufacturer's release that TRULY got EVERYONE talking about something?

I still think this is a bizarre release on so many levels, but I still can't help but feel like everything Elon does is part of a bigger plan.

Bizarre. But I'm gonna speculate all pre-planned for maximum publicity. Since we're talking about it here in this corner of the web, I'm guessing it worked. Genius marketing move ... like everyone is laughing at Tesla for their unplanned mishap... no Tesla is laughing at you.

Bulletproof, indestructible all electric truck that goes 0 to 60 in 3 seconds when you live in an area with a high number of carjackings?

View: https://giphy.com/gifs/producthunt-shut-up-and-take-my-money-3oKIPa2TdahY8LAAxy

welllll what you really need at bulletproof windows in that case. And you saw how good that glass was:happy:

If this is not a joke (and it looks like one, most likely promoting Cyberpunk 2077), then Rivian is going to kill it with their truck (their SUV also looks awesome).

I think rivians truck looks way better than the cyber truck for the average person.

The styling is so bizarre that I'm guessing it might have a market.

It screams edgy, both literally and figuratively. I'm sure it will turn a lot of heads, that alone could compel buyers.

Good thing they didn't unveil it at the end of March, or early April. It looks like an April fools joke to me.

Would be so much prettier without the triangle tail. If it was cut like a regular truck only in the back, it would look badass. Maybe it is for structural strength, otherwise it should be that way.

I'm getting it when it comes out. The 2 motor version. It's kind of ugly. But I've been waiting for a self driving electric SUV that can go off road for some time now.

I'm sure people will come up with ways to spruce it up. I really hope it comes with those wheels.

Modern trucks have everything from approach angle monitoring to adjustable tire pressure.

Aside from air suspension the truck seems pretty bare bones especially in the interior.

200K preorders according to musk. That's $20M in pre-order funding. If they can fulfill those pre-orders alone in 2021/2022, that's 10B in revenue..

Wouldn't be surprised if they get to 500K pre-orders by EOY.

They know what they're doing. Tesla is going to make me rich.. Already up 40% in my open position, and the stock is already rebounding pre-market.

I think the roof line was requested by US Pentagon and UK MOD so that whichever organisation we will be fighting in a few years time have no place to easily attach machine gun mounts. ;)

I would love one. I want an attachment for the front that extends out with the push of a button and extends that front ramp straight to the road. I can use it to ram and flip other cars off the road.

I would also love to see what a steel ball being thrown directly at any other vehicle would do to its windows.

I read that the top-spec one even features a pressurized cabin so that it can be used on Mars.

Madness.

Pretty much the same thing as what happened to the CyberTruck, really.

I don't think that thing looks anything like a DeLorean. The DeLorean was sleek and sexy. That beast belongs in Minecraft. Or Halo or something like that.

The styling is so bizarre that I'm guessing it might have a market.

Not visually, but the idea reminds me of when the Hummer first came out. Butt-f*cking ugly, incredibly expensive, and not very practical for urban use, but it became a status symbol. And people still buy H3's!! *gag*

Re: the windows: I saw a video of them dry-running the steel-ball test -- with the same truck. The windows successfully weathered multiple whacks. But the theory was that the repeated tests ended up creating microfractures in the window, weakening it so it failed in the reveal demo. Dumb move by Elon &co if so. But if that was the case, what are the chances of both windows surviving all tests, and then both failing when it was showtime?

I watched the reveal live and thought it was the ugliest vehicle I could imagine. The next morning, I thought it was ugly but had some appeal. A day later, I reserved one.

The design really grew on me, and the specs are unbelievable. Seeing it compared to the Rivian R1T really sealed the deal for me, as it's better in every way for $30,000 less. Plus it made the Rivian look so dainty & girly in comparison. The Cyber Truck just feels so ruthlessly engineered. I dig it.

$47k for 250+ mile range, literally drives itself, seats 6, has a truck bed & no gas. Oh, and it's bulletproof.

Shows you the power of a good brand - they botched the showing and they're still getting hundreds of thousands of pre-orders.

Pretty awesome. And I'm not really a truck guy(more into supercars).

$40k for rwd, 7,500lb tow, 6.5 sec 0-60, 250mile range
$70k for awd, 14,000lb tow, 2.9 sec 0-60, 500mile range
exoskeleton design which can withstand bullets, is dent proof
seats 6
a little smaller than an f-150
variable air suspension
automatic driving comes standard
looks like it's out of Tron

Oopsie. Hilarious demonstration and the truck looks like a Delorean mated with a Pontiac Aztec.
