The world is burning, as my country. Specially on twitter. But I rather be happy for whatever reason.

My choice. We are choosers. Let's create the world we want.

The world is constantly burning if you're online. Go on a walk in the woods and suddenly it's a pretty nice place.

After watching Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul and seeing all the local landscape shots and points of interests shot during filming, ABQ is on my 2023 itinerary during my Santa Fe/Durango/Moab loop. Not surprised to see the city capitalizing on this considering the ongoing success of the series.
In Belfast/ NI, we've got a tonne of public artwork etc about Game of Thrones as a lot of it was filmed here.

I guess it makes sense for all the tourism it brings in, especially a TV show as big as Breaking Bad.

I agree, Who disagreed with us was Marcus Aurelius, who wrote that going into the forest is nonsense, since a man can always close his eyes and there is nothing like the peace of his own soul.

There is also a cool story of a budist monk, who was always happy, his disciple, after 40 years of studying budism but not grasping the state asked, Sri, how do you do it ? He answered: "Every day I wake up and I have a choice, I can be happy or I can be miserable".

Crazy how it went from all the rage to being absolutely dead because of how bad the last two seasons were.

Marcus Aurelius: "Damn, Twitter is angry today, time to unplug and go outside a bit"
He said that. I promise. I read it on the internet!!

I was actually going to mention Game of Thrones as a comparison since it brought so much tourism to Northern Ireland, Croatia, etc but yeah, that last season was so bad, I wonder if that is still the case.

Lord of the Rings, on the other hand, is still generating strong tourism for New Zealand and if Better Call Saul lands its finale like BB did, I'm sure ABQ will keep reaping the benefits

Sir i have an idea for you to become inspired again, to feel energised again, to feel motivated again. Do you want me to share?
Context-Remember the last time we talked about this on thread- do you wake up feeling inspired or something like that.

After years off of eBay I sold a silver numismatic set which arrived at the buyers today. It was a rare 2016 Mexican Libertad proof set with a total mintage of 250.

Fancy that, it arrives at the buyers and it is missing the most expensive piece, the 5oz coin.

I usually put writing on tape and seal it on the seams, but it has been so long since I have sold anything that I completely forgot. The buyer describes the package as being different than how I shipped it. So did the post office open it and steal a coin?????

I am not sure what to do at this point. I am in a bad spot and having this happen feels like being kicked when down. Not happy.

hey teenage and early 20s fastlaners - here's a tip for you:

You think that your lives are WAY more dramatic than they really are.

That breakup that you're still whining over? You'll forget them in a few years, or as soon as you date someone hotter.

The embarrassment over spending hundred / thousands / tens of thousands on a business venture? You'll forget about that when you find a venture that succeeds.

Getting fired from a job, getting fired by a client, etc - you will laugh about this in a few months because there are always more jobs, more clients, and more opportunities.

The main reason that any of this seems so intense is simply because you lack experience with it. When you go through this stuff (good and bad) again and again, it impacts you less and less.

And what is the point of this rant? The point is to relentlessly charge towards your goals regardless of how you feel. You'll find out later that your feelings are often annoying distractions from your goals at best and absolute saboteurs at worst.

Don't get caught up in feeling good or bad - the only thing that matters is constantly executing toward your long term goals.

It's difficult to hold the carriers accountable when they screw things up, at least that's what my experience have been so far. We used to send packages that contained edibles via a particular carrier and found that the packages were delivered with a few missing items.

Apparently, they cut open the package and took few things. This happened a couple of times and when we reported to the carrier, they simply passed the buck saying "it must be the truck drivers/delivery agents/someone at the destination hub". Infuriating!

A couple of weeks ago I bought an SSD card for a laptop from Amazon.

The package arrived but the seal had been broken and the card was missing. I got an insta-refund from Amazon and reordered from the same supplier.

Again I received the parcel but the card was missing from the box. This time Amazon wouldn’t refund me till after a lot of back and forth messaging.

They finally refunded me and I reordered from Samsung a third time. I went to the PC shop where they were going to fit the card and did an unboxing video of them opening the parcel. Thankfully the card was in the box this time.

I must follow up with Amazon and find out what the result of their investigation was.

I suspect someone in the warehouse is stealing the cards because they’re valuable and small.

Eat the rich but pay $10 first. The irony, lol!

Look at the names. Suck Zuck, Bite Bezoz, Munch Musk...

This is the most "New York" thing I have ever seen

So after back and forth with the buyer it looks like my package was tampered with. He sent me lots of video, and thankfully he had opened the parcel from the side and not the tape! It was opened, and then packaged again differently and very obviously tampered with.

There was also a piece of yellow chalk in the box... Super odd...

So I get to have the package shipped back at my expense, and I'll be missing the coin, and if I am lucky I get a little bit of $ back for the insurance which won't cover the whole thing because shippers hate numismatics.

I am beyond furious about how low some people are. It's a stupid game to some shipper "hahaha look what I found!". On my end it is literally groceries for my family.

You'd be surprised what goes on when nobody is looking.

People walk down the street pulling on car door handles until they find one that is unlocked. Quickly get in and steal whatever they can find - money, electronics, guns. I would bet anyone here who lives in a suburb or near a city and parks in the street or in a driveway has had their car handles pulled in the middle of the night without realizing it.

People sit in parking lots near gyms and parks and wait for women to get out and walk away. Then they smash the window and take their purse.

Along with that, they wait near day care centers and watch women in a rush to get their kids. When women leave their car running and the doors unlocked, they open it up, grab their purses within seconds, and leave before anyone realizes what happens.

They recruit women to dress up and cash checks at banks and steal thousands of dollars. Not to mention, they are driving a rental vehicle with a stolen license plate on the back of it so they are very difficult to track. Look up the Felony Lane Gang.

I've heard of many times at UPS where the workers are cutting open packages and stealing items. UPS has investigators that catch them regularly. UPS doesn't exactly have corporate level executives loading and unloading millions of packages.

We had a lady lose an entire stamp collection that was worth a lot of money after renovators were in her apartment cleaning up after water damage. There is no way to figure out who did it because the complex had several people in and out all day doing different tasks and they just say, "Wasn't me..." and that's the end of it.

There is a whole different side of society that most people don't know exists.

I once sold a baseball figurine on eBay. Bought it at a Goodwill and flipped it. The arm was broken when the buyer opened the box. He sent me pictures and it looked like they probably slammed a couple heavy boxes on top of it, which compressed my box, and crushed the plaster. I ended up giving him his money back and got the insurance back on mine. It sucks -- especially when you're counting on that money to mean something.

Interesting...

Had no idea Australia and Iran had the same economic output.

I was wondering where Ireland was. I wonder why it was highlighted in the footer.

That’s really interesting

So Australia is higher than Saudi Arabia and UAE combined even though I know them as being such wealthy oil countries. The cities they have and the wealth that’s there puts ours to shame.

And is really close to Russia which was previously thought of as some big scary military powerhouse. Our military is a joke, I recon anyone could invade Australia right now and it would be theirs in under a week.

Australia should be so much wealthier than it is but we give away our natural resources to foreign mining companies basically for free.

And we are too woke to burn coal for power here even though we export millions of tonnes of it to be burned to make power for foreign countries. Like we live on the same planet, it’s not going to matter where it gets burned.

We give away our natural gas.

So here we are paying 40-50% tax, paying heaps for power and gas, when all the companies and countries are taking ours from us, paying no tax and laughing at us. It’s a joke.

We export coal and iron ore to China, why don’t we just make steel with it and export that.

I imagine a lot of this has to do with history and treaties, kind of like how Japan's Constitution was written by the US after WW2 and basically forbids it from having a real military.
