The reason to amass a large fortune is so you can build a "money machine". Having $10,000,000 sitting in the bank doing nothing is a total waste (never mind not inspirational or liberating). This is the biggest take away I got on my first reading of "Unscripted ". The "money machine is the key to financial freedom". FU money is the goal anything else is a distracting "shiny object" Thank you MJ for waking me up.

The rich get richer because they continue to do the things that made them rich in the first place. The poor get poorer because they continue to do the things that made them poor in the first place.

"I constantly see people rise in life who are not the smartest, sometimes not even the most diligent, but they are learning machines. They go to bed every night a little wiser than they were when they got up and boy does that help, particularly when you have a long run ahead of you." - Charlie Munger

"This gave me on occasion to observe, that, when men are employ'd, they are best content'd; for on the days they worked they were good-natur'd and cheerful, and, with the consciousness of having done a good day's work, they spent the evening jollily; but on our idle days they were mutinous and quarrelsome, finding fault with their pork, the bread, etc., and in continual ill-humour, which put me in mind of a sea-captain, whose rule it was to keep his men constantly at work; and, when his mate once told him that they had done everything, and there was nothing further to employ them about, "Oh," says he, "make them scour the anchor."

Good old Ben Franklin over 300 years ago. It doesn't get better than that. Its so simple... never stop working and you will always be content, happy, etc. He put it best... the consciousness of a good day's work is almost second to none. Being able to be true to yourself and know you killed it today and gave it your all.

So remember, when there's nothing left to do.. scour the anchor. Find something to work on. Its for your own good.

When I was 8 and didn't want to do my multiplication tables, I was bitching and moaning constantly. I remember my dad coming upstairs from doing laundry, putting the bin down on the table and saying, "If you spent half as much time doing the work as you did complaining, you would be done by now."

I shut my mouth up that's for sure, I should have heeded that wonderful lesson.

“The cavemen had the same natural resources at their disposal as we have today, and the difference between their standard of living and ours is a difference between the knowledge they could bring to bear on those resources and the knowledge used today.”

By deliberately cutting back on what we put into the task and yet asking for much more, we force ourselves to think hard and do something different. This is the root of all progress.

"I think this is the only city in America where you can fail at something for a hundred years and stay in business" - Friend of mine, while driving past Federal Reserve building in DC.
