I was talking with my mother last night about just certain things that come up in life that you cannot control. My grandpa just turned 80 and he is starting to fall into poor health so the issue of retirement came up and how certain people get to enjoy retirement while others do not.

My mother works as a teacher in a school in my hometown. One of the teachers she worked closely with retired from the teaching profession at age 65 and she was planning with her husband who also was a teacher to retire in the same year and enjoy the rest of their lives together.

They were both completely healthy at the time of their retirement. A few months into retirement her husband found out he had a serious form of cancer. 6 months into retirement he passed away at age 65 from this cancer.

This is always terrible to hear but happens far too often than it should. People who work for 40 years to never enjoy any time in retirement.
