I haven't been on the forum or posted in a while. Our business has been doing well and every day we find opportunities available to us and new problems to solve. Solving those problems takes time and forces you to make decisions about how you spend your minutes on a daily basis. This has left little time for foruming(yeah it's a word, I just made it).
This morning I find myself with little I have to do and in a good mood, so I pop on and start reading to see if there is anything I can contribute to. After about 20 minutes or so and 10ish long threads, I find myself anxious and just pissy in general. This isn't a reflection of the forum per se, there are plenty of good things going on, but there are a rash of posts about focusing on failure/mistakes/shitty things happening in peoples lives.
Now I know we are all guilty of saying at some point:
"You have to fail to succeed"
"Learn from your failures"
"Focus on your mistakes to know what to do next time"
This is all wrong, you can disagree and think negatively if you like about that statement, but they are WRONG.
If you want to succeed, DO learn from your mistakes, but focus on the good in every situation. Maintain a positive mindset.
You can either be thinking Negatively or Positively. YOU CANNOT DO BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. The brain can only handle one at a time. Negative and Positive cannot under any circumstance occupy the same space.
Try to eat a chocolate chip cookie and be pissed off at the same time.
Ok so if you hate cookies or chocolate chip cookies I guess you could technically do both, but i digress.
So instead of wallowing in self pity about your current situation or everything that has gone wrong in life, acknowledge those things happened but smile and focus on what good has happened in your life.
It's a simple formula: Positive begets Positive and Negative begets Negative.
Make your choice.
I will leave you with a question.
What positive experiences have you had in life that are going to help you move forward?
