<So, this is very off topic, however I was sitting at a party and wondering wether or not you think partying should be a part of your Fastlane quest? I mean, the social life is very important, and most people have needs to be social in a way. So drinking, partying what do you think?

We are Fastlaners. Not robots.

If you want to party once in a while, go do it.
If you are partying at 3 in the afternoon when you should be calling clients, you got a problem.

Use partying to celebrate your milestones! (ex. x amount of sales, x amount of revenue, landed a deal etc.) At least that's what I would do :clench:

I think we often get too caught in what we shouldn't do as entrepreneurs vs what we should be doing.

Partying is not bad unless you do it every weekend and blow money you shouldn't have blown. Go out be sociable enjoy a drink, who knows you may run into @IceCreamKid and his tequila.

The next day get back to work.

Let's not complicate things with pure trivialness

No. Not a single wealthy person I know makes it a priority to jack around at parties.

Also... Who decided a so called social life = partying?

Live. Life. You only do it once. Yes, you make sacrifices as an entrepreneur but you're making them to eventually "live the life."

I believe it's beneficial to celebrate milestones to keep yourself positive, happy, and motivated :)

are party guys rich ?

maybe but after they have made millions. not before

-----

i prefer small meeting like hiking in nature with interesting people.

I don't party. Maybe I'll throw one party when I'm a billionaire living in the Hollywood Hills.

I think it's mostly personal, extroverted people must vent out their extrovertedness once a while I guess :clench:

Do whatever you want, as long as you get things done.

The important thing is to track your stuff and to have control.

Does alcohol shoot your whole next day? Quit drinking.
Do video games make you lose control over your time? Quit playing.

If these things don't impact your productivity? Then who cares.

There are no hard rules. There are only common experiences.
Lots of people find that partying significantly lowers their productivity.
This might or might not be true for you. Test and see.

I agree 100% with point #23.

I have never met any living person that become successful after trying it just one time. 100% of people stuck in the slow lane try it at least once in their lives. Watch out...

Mark Cuban partied a ton. He said he would start drinking bottles of cheap champagne so he wouldn't get hangovers and save money.

Partying is fun but it's a dangerous game if you're an entrepreneur with absolute freedom over your diary. Believe me, I've learned the hard way with many a week lost to recovering from partying in my late 20s.

I realised recently I was personally just too immature to start a business at 27 and that's why for the first few years it was a slog. A big part of that was constantly losing momentum because when I had a big win, I would go out with my friends and get smashed and spend a lot of money and take days recovering.

That's not to say everyone parties like that.

Main questions I'd be asking is, how long do these parties last? How long does it take before you feel 100% again?

If you are the type of person who goes out and doesn't really drink too much or take any recreational drugs, and if you enjoy it, you should party every weekend! Why not?

On the other hand, if you are the type of person who gets hammered and takes a day or two to recover or perhaps goes on consecutive days drinking, it will dramatically slow you down and you'll probably never be very successful until you stop it somewhat - like in my case.

That's just my two cents, from testing this shit out in the trenches :D

I don't think that the 2 are necessarily connected (partying and socializing). Especially alcohol. If you're the kind of person who needs or relies on alcohol to loosen up and talk to people, it could spiral out of control into addiction. It did for me. Be very careful if you drink for the buzz.

I find that partying is great for building social skills and self-confidence indeed.

Here's how it works to me:

1. You get drunk to the point of not caring.
2. You go around and talk to everyone in the club while intoxicated.
3. When you get off alcohol the next days, you will have preserved part of that social freedom and skills, while being sober.

Now, problem, and what I want to ask your opinion about:

How do you deal with the hangovers?

For me, the day after partying is ALWAYS lost. No way to make myself productive, the brain fog is just brutal.

And that's a big price to pay if you are an entrepreneur.

I have a few non-entrepreneurial friends so at least once a month I go out with them just to shoot the breeze. I used to drink in the past to the point of intoxication because I thought it was fun... Then i realized that I was binge drinking socially. I wasn't escaping from anything so why drink so much. SO I STOPPED.

Going out with friends is not mutually exclusive to a drunken night and a hungover next day. Grab a brew and enjoy the convo with friends and beautiful women, or vice versa for the ladies.

We are social creatures.

Out of all the people you know that drink too much, how many end up like Cuban?

Now, how many end up divorced, broke, and trying to explain to a police officer why their SUV is on that particular stretch of sidewalk?

Probabilities, my good man.

LOL, fair enough. I'm not a teetotaler. Just trying to make the argument from probabilities.
