This thread is turning into a debate between those who are “in the biz” and those who are not. Lex is in the biz, and knows about every shit thing OF does to content creators. He’s got blinders on now (biased) and can’t see how this was in every respect a great (risky, but great) marketing.

How do you define success and failure of marketing?

the fact that this thread keeps talking about it proves that this was a successful marketing campaign.

It's not a debate. I asked a few questions to help draw out the latest forum gurus. The kind of people who talk big about what they know without providing support, and who pivot to personal attacks and circular reasoning when they get called out about it.

I have not seen a single person in this thread to claim to be any kind of guru!

It was just an innocent thought/observation...

You might be right, maybe the marketing ploy failed... But it is just a guess that they may have done this on purpose.

It is not marketing advice! I am not a marketer, nor is @Antifragile or that new guy. Just dudes who hang out on Fastlane discussing Fastlane topics and ideas.

Ask the CEO of OnlyFans what their goal was.

I wasn't referring to you. I only happened to quote your post earlier because the point you made seemed to be the main one people were basing their statements on.

Gurus don't call themselves gurus. They just say things and then try to strike down those who challenge them instead of backing up their big talk.

Ask the CEO of OnlyFans what their goal was.

Maybe I will. ;)

I remember when I looked at the OF homepage for the first time a few years ago. I thought "man this is a POS." The UX is terrible, there was no way to discover content. I figured they would clean up their mess in the last few years but they haven't. IMO they left a lot of money on the table (even though they already made a metric shit ton). People will either go to another platform that has a better UX, or maybe OF has an ace up their sleeve.

Look, I don't use OF, but I see instagram pages of chicks who run OF pages constantly popping up in my Explore tab.

Truth is, OF doesn't need a homepage that shows all the users because they rely on UGC - the creators drive the traffic.

It's a huge win as the big company - you don't actually have to push the content out to consumers, you just provide the platform and let your content creators advertise the content hoping and praying that people will click on it.

Amazon, Unity Asset Store, Unreal, Kindle, sooo many big businesses rely on user-driven marketing - meaning the big business has other people spending their money to drive traffic to their site and make them money.

TLDR; most OF customers don't find it through the homepage. Check instagram pages.

Good point, Patreon has a similar strategy. Neither is a place to "browse" content, since they'd be cannibalizing their creators' subscribers/revenue. They're pro-creator, versus pro-category/content.

I think that Linktree is another HUGE winner here. OF girls made them a household name  A micro-app that's just printing money.

Linktree is CRAZY, it’s like everyone uses it, ive seen it a thousand times and not once have I ever googled it or been to their website.

I am loving the conversation about OF.

Loving less the snarky comments, but that's on me ;)

As someone in the industry herself:

OF happening isn't a big thing, never will be and never was, it merely SEEMS big because mainstream media got involved, and OF tried to expand their usage to SFW creators.

I,
and many OG's have seen platforms rise and fall for about a dozen time already.
The newer girls who only know OF and their platform have panicked but listened to the others.

OF in and of itself isn't anything.
Just like Tumblr.
Just like the eatlunch website.
Just like any other website that has been build and created on porn, and then tries to move away from it, will most likely crumble.
OF tryna go mainstream is like Pornhub trying to become the new youtube *insert laughter*

Not because of the sex thing,
but because those who provide content and use the website, are understanding more and more how business works.

And as more and more sexworkers are becoming financial successful, newer sexworkers actually listen to what those with experience have to say.

In the era of information, the origins of a company become more and more prevalent than ever.
OF was build in a very very nasty way (TLDR: nerd + wh0re came together to build this platform, nerd got upset with wh0re, kicked wh0re out, turned into whole legal battle, meanwhile nerd continued).

THEN: OF has been having legal problems for YEARS - going in and out of court, trying to justify why didn't pay taxes, why didn't uphold to certain laws etc.

Those who are taking business serious, know all this. Cause they pay attention.
Just like any business owner pays attention to the involvement of his demographic and providers.

The new girls will go more into the platforms who are established, and even a bigger portion of them will start to learn and utilize alternative payment.

Demand for nudes, demand for P*ssy, demands for fetish providers and what not, will not lessen, and the crowd will follow the creators.

There will however be a more streamlined and more "just" system, as content creators get more knowledgeable of business in general.

All in all,
these are great times, and don't let the mainstream news fool you into making you believe that this is some big and special event,

it really isn't.

Everyone keep hydrated and do the selfcare,

just felt I should share my 2 cents as INSIDERS lol

Demand for nudes, demand for P*ssy, demands for fetish providers and what not, will not lessen, and the crowd will follow the creators.

From Playboy Magazine to P0rn websites, to cam girls, now OF, its only industry transition. The demand has grown exponentially.

.. and I have been a long-time consumer, and willing to buy more! :)
