Ive been living on a farm on rural big island for the past 5 years. It has become very apparent that it is very difficult to create something for society while not participating with it. I have noticed my interpersonal skills have regressed over the last few years. It feels like I'm back to the social awkwardness of my teenage years but I'm 29 years old.

My wife and I want to move to Southern California (Los Angeles or San Diego) so we can get out of comfort zone and integrate back into society. We have some money saved up and a dream of creating a business that can positively impact many people.

We want to move in the next month or 2 and we are not familiar with the west coast so this is going to be a leap of faith. We feel like we have to if we want to increase our chances of being successful entrepreneurs. This will be a big change from our current lifestyle of living like 2 retired folks on a farm. We want a faster paced lifestyle and to plug-in to communities where we can continue to develop our interpersonal skills.

I don't have much to contribute to this community as I am new to entrepreneurship but I will make this a progress thread so others who are in a similar situation can benefit from our experience of moving to the big city.

I wanted to hear from anyone's experience who has moved from a rural town to a city to pursue a fastlane lifestyle. Also anyone has any input about living in San Diego or Los Angeles I would greatly appreciate your $.02

Perhaps @WJK could help you. She’s given me some good advice :)

I once moved from Oahu to the Inland Empire of So Cal. Was one of the worst decisions of my life as the lifestyle change just blew my mind and I had immense regret which lead to all sorts of issues (did it for an ex).

I'd be careful where you choose, in particular if you went to LA, its alluring for some, but you really need a reason to be there. I've also lived in both San Diego and San Diego County backcountry and the differences between SD and LA are stunning. San Diego has a good vibe, but not sure what has happened there since I last lived there in 2015. Like most of So Cal it could of went to the pits. Also look into North of San Diego there are some gems in small beach towns, but bring your wallet.

Also Orange County may be a choice, a little more quieter in South OC like in San Clemente.
