This idea is pretty ridiculous to anyone who knows a bit about nutrition, unless your goal is becoming deficient in some fatty acids and protein. Show me the science behind it. And for those of you who throw the word "toxic" around, please watch this video (he has a PHD in nutrition I think).

I agree with the above poster.
Juice fasting is just a get rich scheme for the owners, as it isn't based on any science and it actually more hurtful for your body than it helps.

Want to get rid of toxics? Drink enough water and work out.
Want to lose weight? Get healthy eating habbits, drink water and work out
Want to lose more muscle than fat? Get a juice fast.

I haven't tried a juice fast as yet.

What I have tried and in fact incorporated into my week is an apple cleansing diet/fast and or a simple water fast on Sundays, no food til dinner.

The Apple fast is simple, just eat nothing but apples all day then eat something light such as greens and something else small for dinner. I've read that taking time off of protein is good for your body too. The main benefit I derived from the apple fast is that it does help clean your bowels out. So since you have IBS it could help.

Water fast is simple just drink water only for more than 12-16+ hours I think...cant remember.

Not sure about the whole 'juicing' thing I mean sure natural organic juice is great for you, so is a lot of other stuff, doesn't mean I would take it everyday.

I attempted a 10 day fast some years ago. The diet was only water. The first 4 days were absolutely brutal. After day 4, the mental clarity and energy was off the charts. Essentially it's a detox -- your body frees its addictions, carbs, sugar, caffeine, etc. Once you remove those addictions, the energy/clarity is absolutely mind-boggling. I was actually thinking about doing another one as I've been going too heavy on the caffeine.
10 days fast??? Mehn, that is serious. Thanks for bringing this one up. I'm sure gonna try it out.

I did juice feast last summer for 50 days. The difference between feasting and fasting is that feasting requires you to drink 4 liters per day. You are getting all the nutrients you need except fibre, so it is a lot more sustainable.

Aside from the normal physical symptoms, there are also many mental nuances which one have to experience first hand to truly understand. Like many have said your mind does become a lot more clearer during the process. There also seemed to be an abundance of creative energy. For example, I randomly started decorating my walls with used aluminum cans for no reason. It was pretty fun lol.

If anyone is attempting to do this, feel free to PM me any questions.

I agree that is a quick fix for some people, but if you where to replace a meal with a juice daily it would have lasting effect on your well being. It does not take a genius to work out whats better ; a fried up breakfast or a lean green juice packed with Kale, Spinach, Apples, Celery, Cucumber.

Get rich scheme? Well if you have found something new that is not being marketed right in your country and you can capitalize on it would you not? Joe Cross is a brilliant business man in my eyes. He has marketed his product "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead/Juice On" excellently and look where that has got him. Jason Vale also has marketed his product but not to the extent of Cross. Both in my mind have different target audiences.
Lucy Mecklenburgh (she is so hot) over in the UK is releasing her own version for young girls and look she is becoming a great success with her fitness/food campaign whilst becoming wealthy so it must be doing something for its audience otherwise no market would be there for it.

Also on both the DVDs FSND (free on Netflix) and Super Juice Me they show the effects on the body short term which are brilliant especially the second DVD i mentioned where it is an experiment where he takes 8 people with 22 different medical conditions and over the duration 90% of them disappear.
Just actually shows how eating/juicing/blending good natural food is right for our body. If this isn't your science I don't know know what is.

Also Fat Sick Nearly Dead is free on YouTube if your curious.

This is so true and thanks Paul for the youtube link of a fellow Aussiepreneur, Fat Sick & Nearly Dead.

Having been diagnosed with Gerd recently which is reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus i was prescribed medications but i was sick of taking them after a week so i started blending kale, bananas and coconut oil and cutting out any greasy/sugary foods and no longer need to take the medication.

Just last month i could barely walk because of the reflux, dizziness and lack of sleep. I was told it was because i drank too much coffee and ate foods such as chocolate, chips etc which relaxed the oesphogus valve permanently?

If i can find the Gerd forum that president Obama recently subscribed to i will leave a note there about adding a vege & fruit smoothie or juice as part of a Gerd diet or for any diseases for that matter.

The medical proffesion has a lot to answer for when it comes to giving out medication when many of us with an illness or disease can self heal through proper diet.

Cheers
Rob

The whole juice fasting trend reminds me of what MJ says about events vs processes and it's definitely the former. Don't get me wrong - I totally see the appeal, which is why I fell for it a few years ago. I mean - detox, clear skin, more energy, resetting your system, weight loss...who can say no to that?

But here's what happened for me: I lasted 21 days. I barely had any fat to lose but yes, it thinned me out even more. After the miserable 1st week (terrible time, wasn't able to do anything except wander around the house in a hungry daze), my energy levels were crazy. I wasn't working at the time so I spent all day at the gym doing back-to-back dance and yoga classes. Oh, and I had tons of (even more) free time since I didn't have to sit down several times a day for normal meals.

Those were the perks (they didn't last past the fast, btw). Here's the other side of what happened: There were moments (especially first week) where food cravings would become so intense, I felt possessed. I started making a really long list of all the food I was going to consume once the fast was over. I wrote in that list a lot. My porn was pictures of food and in my spare time, I'd walk past tourist restaurants with pictures to satiate my lust. I made my then-boyfriend eat certain foods just so I could kiss him for the taste afterwards. My mind was clear most of the time (when I wasn't fantasizing about food), sure, but I don't think that was "clarity" so much as "utter blankness."

As for the weight "lost" - it came back with a vengeance after the fast ended. And I actually became around 6 - 7 lbs heavier than I had been before I ever even thought of fasting. It also didn't do wonders for my skin - I looked more sallow and grey during the fast than before. Oh, and I also have stomach issues (had an ulcer, still prone to getting sores on stomach lining) - and I really don't think depriving myself of fiber and other GI-helpful non-juice foods like yogurt was helpful at all.

The only good thing that I gained out of this fast was the resolution that I would NEVER starve myself/subject my body to that sort of treatment ever again. I also gained a healthy deal of skepticism for trendy diet/nutrition must-trys.

Anyway, the point of this isn't to discourage you from attempting another juice fast. Okay, it kind of is. 'Cause it takes things that are good for your body (short periods of fasting - like 2 days and fresh, raw, natural, alkalizing foods) and it makes it seem like you could reap these crazy benefits by condensing what should be a life-long practice into an extreme week (or few weeks) of putting undue burden on your body.

It's not worth it. Especially when you can incorporate fresh juices and other liquid nutrition into your diet pretty much effortlessly. There's just no need to kill yourself over a fast. If you already have a juicer - just make a habit of drinking at least one juice every day. Since with IBS, your stomach may have trouble digesting veggies, you can use juicing to get liquid nutrition from the fibrous veggies you won't/don't normally eat - as well as helpful herbs you wouldn't normally eat, like ginger, mint and fennel.

But especially since you have IBS - please don't starve yourself. Your body (and gut) will do a helluva lot better with a regular supply of nutrients that juice alone cannot provide. If you really want to do a liquid-y fast - then try a modified one by adding in smoothies as well. That way you can fill in the gaps that juicing misses and make sure you get things like probiotics (yogurt), extra fiber, healthy fats, protein, etc. You can add all sorts of things to smoothies - nuts, fresh aloe vera, tofu, beans (edamame is great), seeds, oats, and even fresh vegetable juice shots you don't want to drink straight (cabbage and wheatgrass juice comes to mind).

Oh, and don't feel guilty about quitting. Extreme events (like Joe Cross's documentary) sell but they're not always the best course to follow, especially when it comes to your body. Maybe just use that for inspiration? :) Okay, this is getting waaaay too long. Good luck on your nutrition journey!

I have been using a juice machine since last November. I'm going to keep using one for the rest of my life. The health benefits are too much to give up, even though the juice tastes terrible and I don't like taking the time to use the juice machine and to clean it. I haven't been fasting with it. I eat organic, grass fed meat too. I eat organic grass fed cow liver too. It's packed with a lot of nutrients.

I just recently found out you can heal the cavities in your teeth by consuming large amounts of certain vitamins and minerals from natural, organic food sources. It's actually working. My teeth don't hurt anymore. You actually should not use a dentist to fill cavities in your teeth. Both mercury and plastic fillings are toxic and bad for your health. I also started using toothpaste that has no fluoride in it. Somebody said fluoride toothpaste actually harms your teeth. I think my teeth are doing better without the fluoride. I drink distilled water, so hopefully I'm not getting fluoride in my water either. The whole thing about fluoride being good for teeth is a huge lie.

If you have GERD, then the solution is to take digestive enzyme pills and Betaine HCL pills. The cause of GERD is usually not enough stomach acid. So these pills increases the enzymes and acid in your stomach so you can digest better. When you don't have enough stomach acid, the bacteria in your stomach produce gas, which pushes acid up into your esophagus. Also without sufficient acid, your esophagial sphincter doesn't close, so it allows acid into your esophagus. Antacids and acid blockers are wrong and are bad for you, unless maybe if you have a stomach ulcer.

I did a 56 day juice fast.
It was only supposed to be 25 days but just carried I because I liked the feeling.
Most positive experience of my life! Hands down.
Felt very healthy but ate a pizza asmy first meal (not a good idea).
aftwr the pizza cramps, I ate healthy after that.
All the weight has stayed off.

I'd recommend it to anyone

I would just cut grains and dairy out of your diet. Maybe try intermittent fasting and a daily juice to break your fast instead of just living your life on juice. That always made me feel more energetic and just overall better. It's awesome for your hormones and burning fat too
