I don't speak spam-ish: A question about commenting on blogs

In pursuit of the coveted backlink, I see that when I comment on blogs, my name becomes the anchor text for the link. Therefore, I imagine a name specific to my niche would be better than my actual name. For example, I have a rice cooker website and having anchor text that read "Best Rice Cooker" would be ideal. However, that would sound spam-ish, and therefore less likely to be approved by the site owner.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Use a different name? Don't use a keyword, that is straight up spam and will most likely be removed unless it's on a page with a ton of other spam links in which case its going to be devalued.

Thanks for your fast response. I'm just trying to get as much SEO-bang for my buck for when I post a comment on blogs, etc.

So if a name is the anchor text, does it have much value for seo purposes since there is no key word anchor text?

Do they not allow you to use a URL as your name?

I've seen plenty of good posts from bloggers that do this, but I'm not a regular in that part of the biz?

What say the linkers/bloggers here? Jon Lee?

What I do is sign my name as...

Jon @ MyKeywordDomain.com

That way it isn't spammy and I still get keywords in there (assuming they are in the domain name).

For blog commenting in general, I wouldn't worry too hard on the anchor text. If you really want maximum SEO benefit drop a link to your site into the actual comment (assuming you have a page that can add value to the conversation). Again, great finesse is required to get it approved.

I'd say I delete about 9/10 that try it on my sites, but once and a while it actually is of value and I leave it up.
