Welcome to my execution thread where I will write about my process of moving countries & becoming a real estate developer.
Intro/backstory:
Last year I sold my solar business. What has been my dream turned into a period of burn-out and depression. After the sale I slid in a deep depression because I lost my purpose in life. I was extremely tired from the years of hard work I’ve put in, and it felt like my nervous system needed to recover. I was depressed & exhausted. When I started to feel better again my ‘entrepreneurial thoughts’ came back and I made a plan. Retirement at 29 is way too early.
What I’m going to do:
I’m going to build warehouses. I’ve chosen the industrial niche because there is some overlap from my last business, I have a good friend that knows this business inside-out, and also because I sense there is a lot of demand for Industrial space in Dubai. It’s also one of the simplest niches to start in.
I have no experience in real estate development. The weird thing is that I feel it’s my destiny to do this. I’ve always had the urge to do real estate. There is just something about it that has always attracted me. I finally found the balls to pursue my REAL dream. Woohoo.
The status now:
We (my wife, 6 months old daughter & me) moved from Amsterdam to Dubai. I will work from home in the beginning so that I can stay with my wife and child while they settle in. Since arriving in Dubai two weeks ago I met a broker that I’ve befriended. For the rest I basically ran errands. This is the first week where I will have the full ability to work.
The plan:
I’m going to build warehouses, stabilize them (rent out for the right amount to the right tenants, for the right duration), and sell to investors.
I also plan to make a name for myself by putting out content because I think it will greatly enhance trust with possible investors & will make dealsourcing easier. This week I’m meeting more brokers and will gather market intel.
More to come.
