Good afternoon guys, hope all is well. When it comes to app development specifically for social media networks is it best to join a coding boot camp or to teach yourself. If there are any verified coding schools to learn I would be more than grateful to be directed there. If there are any social media app developers on here I would be more than happy to get in contact with you and to discuss further. I have big dreams nearly impossible for where I am right now but I believe in myself and my ability to learn. I look forward to contributing more regularly on this Forum as if has been very inspirational.

I hate to be the guy raining on parades, but I have to ask… WHY?

Is this really what the world needs?

What can you do to make a sale this week? If not a sale, what can you do to help someone this week?

My worry is you’re going down a rabbit-hole of learning then building.

You’re not that guy that’s raining on my parade by any means I welcome opposition. My app is specifically targeted towards a specific demographic, in this case it is towards students. I’ve ran a few surveys and analysed the complaints of social media and I genuinely believe there is a market for it. Things like LinkedIn and studentroom are not cutting it and there is major room for
improvements.

In the most respectful way, I do not understand what this means. What incentives do I have that will attract potential users?

Rather than build a social network app, can you create a community on one of the apps already out there?

My previous questions were based on product-founder fit. What business/endeavour can *you* start that will help someone in the next 7 days, or make a sale in the next 7 days? If you can’t do so creating a social media app then what can you do instead?

I understand you a bit better. I would say that a community is possible but it wouldnt get the outcome or a similar to the one I desire from my app. Especially on apps like Twitter and Facebook which I believe some people will find generic and not engaging enough for them. The second aspect is interesting, I never thought of that. Thank you for your input I appreciate it.

I worked for a startup “building a social network”. That’s the wrong goal.

I wrote these to explain what I mean:
I would like to explain my app a bit better to you as well. It would be an App similar to your LinkedIn and Twitter setups but specifically for Univeristy students all over the world. I feel like uni students feel very much alone despite being surrounded
by hundreds of thousands of people just like them. As a uni student I remember feeling invisible despite being around herds of people just like me. One thing I noticed though ‘was online uni’ thrived, it was more exciting and easier than trying in real life. This was through mainly apps like WhatsApp and others. Those apps now seem to be a lil bit outdated and an app concentrated specifically for university students would make it easier for them to socialise, network and develop in ways they may not have realised. Similar to this forum. I welcome any criticism for this pitch as it’s something I’ve only been pondering over for some months now.

@Khalid Stop asking permission to do what you want to do.

If you truly believe what you're proposing has value, then go ahead and give it your best shot. At worst, you will learn a lot from it and learn to code. Remember, to be successful you absolutely don't have to be a household name or industry leader. You just need enough of a market share.

You don't need a hundred million active users on your student social network to be successful. Focus on getting tens of thousands on there, and see where it takes you.

Another thing is, you're probably better off testing your idea with a simpler and quicker approach. If it's a website, you can probably make a simple version of it in Wordpress. If it has to be a mobile app, hire someone on fiverr and the likes to create a simple version of it, and test it out. Otherwise, you will start learning to code and like many people likely drift off and abandon the whole thing.

Any other websites like fiverr but better, I’ve heard really bad things about it.
