I jumped on a quick call recently to discuss someone's business and ways to get more signups and sales.

Whatever suggestions I came up with were met with reasons why it wouldn't work.

Their first reaction was to lament:

How will that work!

Instead of wondering:

How will that work?

Ask yourself if you're a "Yes, but" kind of person.

Ashamed to admit it but I've noticed this flaw in me.

Looking back, the times I've actually been humble and curious about overcoming a roadblock are the times I've had the most powerful breakthroughs.
Powerful, yet simple thing to point out @Andy Black.

Good stuff @Andy Black

Yesterday when I ordered samples for a product I want to sell, I fought that thinking the whole way.

Yes, but my competition is bigger!
Yes, but my competition has deeper pockets!
Yes, but I've never done this before!
Yes, but I have no idea what I'm doing!
Yes, but I have a good job and my mom told me the other day I should just be happy with what I have!

I settled on:

Yes, but I'm gonna do it anyway!

How will it work?? I have no idea!! Haha!!

Have you thought about trying to frame it as a "HELL YEAH" or "no"?

I like the "Hell yeah, or no" litmus test. I take too much action in a way, so it's my way to (try to) stay focused.

The "Yes, but" folks take no action, because they talk themselves out of it. They never say "Hell yeah". They never say "no" either... not in so many words. Instead they say "Yes, but". It's a shame.

Thanks!
Could definitely relate to it.
I made my call some time ago, but its very reassuring to learn that my instincts, especially re. the 'litmus test', were correct.
As for the how! Vs how? part - its actually a great parenting advice as well. A great message for the younger folks, engraving this to their minds (along with the Unscripted philosophy as a whole). Just saying :)
