Freelancing & Side-income : 99Designs?

You all have probably seen 99designs spamming the sides of your facebook bar. If not, I recommend checking out their site, it's a pretty interesting business model.

I originally wanted to do some freelance on traditional sites like odesk or elance, but then I came across 99designs. The contest model they use seem have a low-barrier to entry to new freelancers. In some niche areas the competition isn't that high. The reward money is pretty decent too.

If any of you guys have work with them before, I would love to hear you thoughts. Recommendations and advices to newcomers would also be appreciated 😀
