Hi,
I'm Étienne, an entrepreneur from Montréal, Québec. I'm 20 years old and I started taking responsibility for my actions about a year ago. I'm currently working hard to overwrite my old self-limiting beliefs, and this internal fight is becoming easier as I add up the small wins consistently. This is something I'm very grateful for, as I'm finally starting to believe that building the life I want is possible through hard work and commitment.
I'm still living with my parents for now as I'm currently at Concordia University studying in business. I already had my doubts about how useful a degree in Commerce actually was, but after reading TMF and UNSCRIPTED , I've decided to quit business school to study Engineering starting September 2023, with the goal of developing my own Fastlane business. I'm going to get this engineering degree to learn Product Design and to use it as a fail-safe if an external factor ever gets in the way of my business.
For now, I'm involved in a residential cleaning business with 2 friends. I don't know if this is going to be the business that allows me to live an UNSCRIPTED lifestyle, as it violates several of the CENTS commandments for now, but I'm focused on growing it the most possible. We've only had about 15 clients so far, but it is a great opportunity for me to learn sales and management skills. This business is going to be difficult to scale since it relies heavily on human-resource systems, but we're focusing on recurring jobs to make managing employees easier, since the demand will be more consistent (assigning a specific client to a predetermined cleaner also makes developing trust with the clients easier). I will also eventually be able to use the free cash flow the cleaning business generates for a Fastlane business.
