Kurt - from what I've gathered, you sir, can impose some serious self discipline. Folks, I wouldn't mess with this guy in a diet contest! What will be your preferred method of shedding the weight? Round two of the dollar-a-day diet? Or did you have any takers on the all-honey diet??

lol, no, still cannot eat oatmeal since the $1 day diet. I have done this many times for money. Some weight loss efforts I have done are eating every other day, eating only applesauce and salads, eating one meal a day. I forget all of them.

I also went 4 days eating only carrots on a bet. That was fun.

No takers on the honey diet competition yet, thank goodness. I hate honey, but I am very curious about what effects eating honey only would have on my digestive system.

In all my bets, I have only lost once. One time I won by .1%.

On the flip side, I always marshmallow up to a brave new fat world after each time.

Of course, the spirit of this is different. Part of the past times was playing mental games with my competition to defeat them, where as this will function more as a support group.

btw- one of my favorite mind games would be once my weight loss would start to be quite profound, I would make sure I had dinner with the competition a few times in a week and make a pig of myself. So in their mind they might think- "he is eating like this and still losing all this weight, their is no hope for me." Fun stuff like that.

let's do it, i weigh around 217lbs and want to drop to 185lbs. :)

I was 210 lbs just 3 months ago. Now I am 27 lbs lighter at 183. Heres how I did it.

Month 1 =
Mountain biked over 100 miles
Sumitted two 14,000 footers
Kayaked over 50 miles of whitewater

Month 2 =
Travelled China - rice, vegies, fruit, and some meat every day (always hungry but very healthy food)
Walked or road a bike everywhere
1 week of rock climbing in 90 degree heat.

Month 3 =
Still in China
2 weeks of Ecoli posining (at least 5 lbs right there)
Small meals every day. Never stuffed myself like at home.
Started running around the park every 3rd day. (20 minutes)
Started 100 pushups .com program

I have found that the gym sucks. I think the eating or lack of is doing most of the work. I have a hard time staying in a gym for an hour but I can easily spend 2 or more hours playing sports. One is work and the other is fun. I cancelled my gym membership for good.

If you just want to loose a few pounds then I would recomend Ecoli posioning, works great and its quick.

Here's a motivating video for you guys! Good luck!

YouTube - My 120 pound journey.

You guys are on a great journey! My wife and I workout together 3 times a week. Jogging mostly, but mixing it up with biking, roller blading and the muscle works classes at the YMCA. All the best!

How come you say the gym sucks? If you're going purely off of weight lost I could believe it, but in terms of fat to muscle it certainly doesn't. Also, the increased muscle mass would also boost your metabolism making future weight loss (assuming you keep the mass) 'easier'.

Also, your last tip is golden :p hahaha

btw, grats on the weight loss!

If you guys do short sprints or hill sprints, that is the fastest way of working all your body and losing fat quickly and swimming if you have a swimming pool is also very great for losing weight.

That is what I had my clients do and they would lose about 2 lbs a week. No bs
But be careful not to overdue it

The problem with short intense workouts is it goes against everything we're brainwashed into believing growing up. We're taught that to lose weight the amount of calories burned during exercise is the important thing. On that notion alone long distance is better.

The problem is once your down with long distance, so is the burning of calories.. Let alone once you start getting into long duration runs (1 hour+) your body starts to release cortisone which starts to break down muscle for energy (lowering your metabolism).

Plus, short intense works can be done by anyone (they can take < 15min). While keeping your metabolism up for a good portion of the day...

Just going based off of dropping pounds, I should have clarified. Its mostly a personal thing. Gyms work great if the person has the discipline. I don't have the discipline so my alternative solution is to play outside sports because its much easier to keep my interest.

My journey started exactly one month ago when I got on the scale and was horrified to see I was 274lbs!!! Considering that I was 239 right before I ran the '09 Chicago Marathon on 10/11/09 this was saddening, considering my goal for this yr was to further cut my time to 3:59:59(ran 4:33:04 last yr and 6:01:29 in '08 when I weighed about 265lbs). Well I did a little bit of running after last yr's marathon, but when it was unsure whether I could afford to run or would even be in Chicago to run this year, I did not sign up and then bad weather and laziness caught on until I had that life altering moment!

On 9/19 I "celebrated" by doing a 23 mile bike ride and have been exercising EVERY day since(well I missed one day in the last month), but my plan has been:
Mon, Fri, Sun- 1hr bike ride(between 13-15miles)
Tue, Wed, Thu- 3 mile run(between 8:00-9:30/mi... today's was 8:09/mi)
Sat- LONG bike ride(started with 30 miles and did 40 this past Sat)

On top of that, on 10/1 I started the Tim Ferriss "Lose 20lbs in 30 days without any exercise" Diet(even though I'm not tempting fate and still exercising 7 days a week ;)), weighed in at 271 on 10/1 and last weigh in was 10/15 where I weighed 257, so I'm down 14lbs since I started the diet and 17lbs total!

My immediate goals are:

-Compete in a Century(100 Mile Bike Race)
-Run my next marathon at 3:59:59 or faster(will hopefully be sometime next Spring)
-Add 5-10mph to my fastball(currently topping out at 80mph) and be a nice trim 6'4" 215lb for the next baseball season, hopefully in a competitive league in AZ

My 1-5yr goals are:

-Qualify for the Boston Marathon(3:10:00 or less, which is a 7:15/mi pace)
-Compete in a triathlon(need to work on the swimming part and get an actual triathlon bike, currently I'm riding an XC mountain bike, which is not good for speed)
-Tryout for a Major League Baseball team(if I can get up to 85mph, control my fastball and have my splitter, cutter and change working, I should have a good chance considering I'm a lefty :))

Is there a 'Biggest loser for making less money' lol (me). I work 2 jobs (my small business, and a night job). In all my free time I still manage to squeeze a 3 workout sessions (40mins) in one week. I can't see an entrepreneur gaining weight with all that free time, unless living the dream is really comfortable?? I have an athlete body, and recently retired in my career sport (rugby league). However, I still had the mentality to still train, use to go to the gym and now I have my own home gym (Well it's not my dream gym, and it came at a cost $99 bench, $50 worth of weight plates (garage sale), $25 Exercise mat, etc, lol).

I just realized why I am still broke because my mind is lazy in getting into the fast lane quick enough. Now, if I take the time in learning, understanding the basic business principles, then I believe I will do very well (not doubting myself, just taking longer than expected). This same principle applies in life itself "We are what we eat" whether it be; food or knowledge.

Oh yeah, my encouragement is "Don't be lazy". I should expect the same treatment about the fastlane "Don't be lazy buckmajor" lol.

All the best!!

That's cool. I'm down to 197lbs. So I guess that's 20lbs. But I fell off and just recently started again. However, my goal has changed. My goal is to lose fat and build muscle. I'll probably be happy at 185-190. So it's going to be like dropping to 170lbs, then building up all muscle.
