Hey everyone, I’ve been on this forum for a while and could use some perspective from people who’ve been in a similar position.
I’m 24 and have been building businesses for several years. I’ve experienced some pretty big highs and lows, including businesses doing $50–60k a month and one exit in the low seven figures. But past success hasn’t translated into the consistent income I want today.
For the past three years, I’ve worked as a marketing contractor while building my own projects. Most of my experience has been in entrepreneurship and startups, with an eight-month internship at a large company being my main exposure to a more traditional corporate environment.
I love building, but I have a real love-hate relationship with entrepreneurship. A big part of the last two or three years has been spent trying to build enough reliable income to move out comfortably. I’ve accumulated a good amount of capital for my age, but I don’t want to fund my everyday life by drawing down my savings. Having money saved and feeling financially independent have turned out to be very different things for me.
Right now, I have two apps generating about $2k a month in combined profit. I also released a new app yesterday, and the content promoting it has generated around 600k views over the past two weeks. I’m learning a lot, but it’s also been a lot of long days figuring everything out as I go.
At the same time, I have an offer for a fully remote frontend developer role paying around $90k a year. I’m fairly technical, especially with AI tools, and design is one of my strengths. The reliable income is appealing, and it would make moving out much easier.
What’s making the decision difficult is that marketing and distribution are what I’m most interested in getting better at. Taking a frontend role feels like committing time to a separate career path. Part of me thinks I should pursue a growth role instead, where the work would overlap more directly with what I’m trying to achieve through my own businesses or just go full in on building.
Then there’s the uncertainty around AI. I worry about what frontend development will look like in five years, but I have similar concerns about app businesses. I want to commit to something with staying power, and I’m finding it hard to judge where that is.
I still believe I could build an app business doing high five figures in monthly recurring revenue I have been traveling most of the year so I cant say its been fully focused effort.
It’s become overwhelming. I know I’m fortunate to have savings and options, but I hate still living at home. On paper, I’m doing well. Day to day, I feel stuck, frustrated by my income, and impatient to build an independent life.
If you were in my position, would you take the frontend offer and keep building on the side, pursue a growth role that aligns more closely with the business, or give the apps more time before committing to a job?
I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who’s moved from entrepreneurship into a full-time role. My goal is to escape the rat race tbh, or find work that im deeply inlove with
