I'm reading TMF for the 3rd time and something got me thinking in the chapter explaining „the law of effection".

Could you possibly create a business, just focusing on the process and giving a F*ck about visualizing yourself on a beach with a cocktail and a macbook?

Do you need to be thinking positively in order to succeed, or can you just do the work every single day without thinking about the outcome?

What do you guys think?

Can somebody be successful without having a positive mindset and visualizing his goals?

Business is just someone handing you money for a thing.

Period.

Someone wants/needs something, for whatever reason, and a provider offers it to them in exchange for something (typically money).

If someone has money and has a want/need and they decide to go with your offer of exchanging some sort of solution to their want/need for money and gives you the money and accepts your solution, you have performed a business transaction.

That has nothing to do with any emotion or feeling in your head.

Now, with that said…

Your life is a result of choices. You decide one thing over another because it gives you something that is better in some way than another option.

Your choices are guided by the weighing of those options, in order to define what is “better” in your own mind.

People turn into mcdonalds and buy a cheeseburger because their reptilian brain told them “mmmmm burger”.

People eat healthy food and go on diets and they imagine the joy of being in shape, the feeling of being healthy at an old age, the feeling of taking their shirt off at the beach and getting admired, etc.

These are long term, less obvious, harder to focus on thoughts that would be considered a “vision”.

The allure of that McDonald’s sign can be overcome by conscientious, intentional thoughts, that come from that vision of the future.

The creative vision is what gives us the ability to act in ways that are superior to only being slaves to our reptilian brain.

Without thought, vision, planning, etc. we can only listen to our basic instincts and those will turn us into a fat drug addict homeless person. Every single action would be driven by instant gratification ONLY.

In order for you to be guided by a conscientious vision and have values that guide your decisions in a logical way, you have to have some sort of goal.

With no goal, there is no reason to not eat McDonald’s or whatever fattening tasty meal there is in front of you.

So you must have a goal, an ideal.

This ideal is based off of what YOU desire.

If you have a vague idea of a non specific desire, it sits deep in your subconscious and does not make its way into the front of your mind. This allows any instant gratification distraction to take priority.

But, with a clear vision…a clear and specified ideal…it sits in the front of your mind. And now your choices are constantly filtered through the lens of “does this advance me towards my ideal, my goal? Or does it take me further away?”

It is easy to see exactly how someone with a clearly defined ideal is better equipped to make all of their decisions directly align with their goals, and for someone to not have this clearly defined vision make bad choices.

Yes, you theoretically can wake up, do the work, and succeed.

When you wake up and don’t want to do the work, or you face many consecutive difficulties and setbacks, the man who knows WHY he is doing it will endure longer than the man who has no vision for where he is going and why he is doing so. It would violate his basic instincts to be avoiding pain and seeking pleasure. It cannot happen without a clearly defined set of values that he adheres to because of his vision.

If you say “I don’t have a vision I just do the work” then you are just a fool or a liar.

Why work at all?

You only work for what it brings you. You only want what it brings you for what you can do with it. You only want those things because of how it will make you feel.

You only work to go somewhere, to make progress towards something.

If you do not know where you are trying to make progress towards, you will be analogous to a ship floating out of a harbor with no captain, no crew, no map and no destination, just the engines running it anywhere it happens to go.

It will end up crashed along the shore in the middle of nowhere, abandoned.

The only way for the ship to get to the right place is to have a trained captain and crew, a map, a destination, a plan, etc.

It’s the same with a human being. You must know where you are going, how to guide yourself there, and a plan.

This is why you should have a vision of yourself in the future that inspires you. It plays in your mind when you sleep, when you drive, when you shower. The thoughts cross your mind when you’re in a beautiful country and spent your day having fun with people you love. “I wish every day was like this”. Then you decide “It CAN be like this. I WILL make my life like this.” It fills your sails with energy and all you desire is to set up your life in a way that allows you to live how you want.

Do not forget you are an emotional creature. You have desires for a reason. You have dreams for a reason. It is a mistake to pretend, especially to yourself, that you are a robot. You are not. Use your imagination and emotions to fill your sails with energy, and give yourself a clear vision of where you’re going, so you can use it as a lens to filter all of your decisions to make better ones, and get to where you actually want to be.

if it's just a business sure. if you're mean bigger long term goals, you're unlikely to get there if you only focus on the day-to-day process.

Not to say positive, but at least be clear and intentional on what results you want to create for yourself. Or else it's very easy to settle down or even forget why you wanted that in the first place

I'm not a fan of visualization. feels too unnecessary to bother. instead, I'd do an exercise like 1-2 times per month similar to journaling to reflect: "where am I now in contrast to where I want to be?" and then see where, what, why, and what to focus on next

The Universe is Mental, manifestation works, thoughts matter, etc. However, consistent, systemized action works too.

You do need to have the belief that you "will make it" somewhere inside you but you don't need to be positive, high-energy, confident, etc. all the time. You absolutely can feel like shit emotionally and still get work done, and still get paid for it. Is it ideal? No. But in my experience, it's very important to learn how to perform and get shit done even when you don't feel like it.

If I only worked when I was truly happy and excited, I'd probably be homeless.

Edit: That's from the perspective of a freelancer, for a business owner there are some new challenges too but in the long run, you'd rather focus on building a system that can be delegated and automated as much as possible, so you're not relying on yourself only. If my mindset breaks, I'm F*cked, I can't deliver what my clients expect me to deliver, but a business system ideally works on its own too.
