Hi Fastlaners,

I'm building a local business directory and marketplace, focused on helping small businesses get discovered and attract customers.

I've already built the platform and listed over 700 local businesses.

The problem I have generated interest and helped businesses for free, but converting that interest into paying customers has been difficult.

I'm considering a more structured paid offer and would appreciate some criticism before launching it.

The offer:

R798 upfront (R399 setup + first month's R399 subscription), followed by R399/month with a three-month minimum.

Customers receive:

- A mobile-friendly one-page business website
- A connected store/catalogue for up to five products or services
- WhatsApp enquiry buttons
- Basic Google Business Profile optimisation
- A Google review QR code and review request message
- Premium placement in the local directory
- One monthly Google post or product feature, one small update and an automated report

The website and catalogue would be delivered within seven working days after receiving payment and all required information,

No promises of Google rankings, enquiries or sales.

My concerns:

1. Am I offering too much for R399/month?
2. Can this become a scalable recurring-revenue business, or am I creating a low-paid web design job?
3. Is a local directory genuinely valuable to businesses before it has proven customer traffic?
4. Would you target businesses with larger transaction values rather than small retailers?
5. How would you acquire your first five paying customers without doing free work upfront?

My goal is to standardise delivery to approximately 2 - 3 hours per setup and 20 minutes of monthly maintenance per customer.

I'm planning to test the offer with five paying customers before scaling.

What would you change remove or do differently?

I am interested in feedback from anyone who has built a local lead generation business, directory, agency or subscription service.

Thanks
