Anyone have experience in the cosmetics industry?

Looking to introduce a lotion/hand cream type product and would love some resources on breaking into the industry, regulations, negotiating with manufacturers, validating demand, etc.

How big of barriers/investment am I looking at to validate demand for my solution?

I’ve already run it through GradeMyBusinessIdea.com and it looks like a winner with a B to B+ rating.

Isn't hand lotion classed as skincare?
Pretty sure makeup is cosmetics.

I guess lol.

I just know that laws distinguish between drugs and cosmetics.

1. Make a landing page
2. Budget $10/day Facebook Ads
3. Run a campaign for a few days and see what works ;)

I’m skeptical of smoke tests. In my experience they only serve to validate that someone will click an ad or give an email address.

True validation is people opening their wallets.

The cosmetics industry can be tricky to navigate, with many regulations and other considerations to keep in mind. It's great that you've already run your business idea through GradeMyBusinessIdea.com and have received a B to B+ rating - that's a good start! If you're looking for more information and guidance, you might want to consider reaching out to the Northwest College School of Beauty (www.nwcollege.edu). They offer a range of programs and resources specifically designed to help aspiring beauty professionals succeed in their careers. They can provide you with some helpful insights and information on breaking into the cosmetics industry and navigating the various barriers and investments you're likely to encounter.

Make that a test to see if people open their wallets?

And what do you know there’s a really good thread on how to do exactly that

I have 1 piece of advice on testing, put your best price, best ad, best website etc forward right at the start. Otherwise you will drag it out and say what if I tried fixing this, what if I dropped the price, and you’ll end up spending way more on ads than you need to.

I start with the simplest and ugliest landing page and see if I can get visitors first. Mind you, that's for paid search.
