I am building my pre-launch email list - to which I will advertise, once my product goes live.

So far, I am sitting at around 250 people according to MailCheat(Chimp).
I'd like to build it up to at least 1000 before launch.

My strategy is as follows:

1) drive traffic to the landing page (FB ads = 6% CTR, 0.08 c per click);
2) visitor signs up (12% conversion);
3) the user gets forwarded to the "thank you" contest page, where they are encouraged to share the product page with their friends (or like fb page/ follow Instagram page) to get more entries - just started this;
4) once they are on board - they get an email every week with updates regarding the product launch as well as some value (tips for this certain niche, useful articles) - just started this as well.

I am paying about ~$1.25 per email, but I'd like to get it down to 0.30c.

I've just started learning about building email lists and email marketing.

Can anyone critique this strategy and share some tips?

  • I am curious about methods of building lists also
  • E-mail makes sense
  • What about physical addresses for direct mail campaigns?
    • I don't mean to hi-jack the thread
  • Is there an underlying principle that applies to both?
    • Who is the Ray Dalio of building lists?

Email is one of the best forms of communicating with your customers. Building an email list is the most valuable digital channel.

One of the methods you can use to grow your email list is Social Media. If you have a social media account, you can post a link to your landing page. Posting the link on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and any other platform will definitely pull in a few email addresses. You can also join relevant groups where your target audience is active. Often, these groups allow you to post links to your own product or services, allowing people to opt in.

You can also grow your email list through content marketing. For example, At the very top of your blog, you can invite people to join on your journey. Simply by entering their name and email address, they gain access to your content.

For more details you can refer to the article How To Create a Killer Email List From Thin Air (A Beginner's Guide) written by Neil Patel.

I would worry less about the number of subscribers and more about the quality of your list. Make sure the people you have on your list can make use of what you have to offer and have an interest in what you have to offer at the very least.

As far as doing it cheap, I haven't done it cheap so I don't know. Haven't figured it out yet.
