Anyone Started a Successful Food Business?

Specifically shipping desserts to customers. Just curious if anyone had tried it.

Also, if so were you able for it to makes CENTS? Or did it turn into time = money because you couldn't automate/delegate?

Food products have a lot of regulation w/regard to what you can and cannot do.

I know here in AZ you can't just cook something in your kitchen, bottle it in a jar, and sell it.

Have you looked at this? Or are you already shipping?

There is a similar-sounding business near me that appears to be doing very well for itself.

Lovely Pear

They identified a space in the market for vegan cakes and now supply several high-end cafes and coffee shops around the Peak District in the UK. Targeting established businesses to supply your products may be a good starting point before looking at direct delivery to customers. If I remember right, Lovely Pear supplied a local high-end coffee shop with free samples (which were offered to customers) for a week on a trial basis.

They now provide a selection of cakes every day, I often see them being delivered whilst I am walking my dog in the morning.

I’m assuming since you’re asking about scale, you’re not trying to run this from your home kitchen. If so, look into your states Cottage Food Laws.

If you want to scale.. the best option will most likely be a copacker.

Baked goods. Small chocolate desserts. Have not researched this yet, not sure what would be regulations. Not shipping yet. Never even considered this as a possibility until this year. I've been making these desserts for several years at the holidays, and was just asked this year if I would sell them more than I gifted them.

This is fantatsic, not sure how I missed that thread. Thank you for the note. And in regards to scale, I am always making sure anything I pursue has the ability to scale. Hard to buy a lambo for each day of the week if you are only selling a handful a week!
