I spoke with Andy recently. I learnt some great stuff. I wanted to flesh out some of my top takeaways. So here they are.
Andy really is the embodiment of his writing. When he writes, it's from battle tested ideas developed through trial and error, and a wealth of experience.
You can play big on the forum, you may know the 'right' answers, you've read all the books. But are you in the field?
Here are some of the top things I learnt.
Practical Karma.
People feel indebted when we over deliver.
It creates a win-win situation.
The client/customer/friend get more than they bargained for.
They feel a mixture of shock and appreciation.
Often leaving them itching for more… but if not, that’s cool too.
You genuinely cared and it shines through everything you do. So easy to do, but so rare.
This doesn’t mean we get caught up thinking you are owed anything...
“I over delivered, I cared, but the client didn’t seem to even notice!!”.
No...
There is no obligation to reciprocate. There’s not. If you over deliver and the other party doesn't reciprocate, that’s fine, this is the default.
Giving more just gives you the option to receive a ‘bonus’. An option you would never have when you were doing the bare minimum.
It puts you in the game.
This ‘bonus’ can be anything from a £3 tip to a £3,000,000 contract.
You don’t need to keep count, the rewards will not be linear, so don’t expect them to be.
Worst case - You develop a mindset that opens you up to more opportunities, more rewards.
Dig deeper, with no agenda.
Help people out, just because.
It pays dividends.
Emotionally, financially, spiritually…
Flesh out your goals.
You’ve seen it before...
An eager, freshly birthed, aspiring fastlaner opens up his laptop, scrambles to the forum.

“Watch me make £1,000,000 this year !!!”
How do 99% of these stories end up?
Most likely, that thread is both the first and last contribution to their entrepreneurial efforts…
But why?
The goal was a spur of the moment creation, a product of a motivational high.
Distant from where our head lives 95% of the time.
The application for the ‘event’ had been filled out…
But for the ‘process’, nothing…
Consequently, nothing gets done… no progress... no millions… no freedom.
Darn.
Instead, what if were to ground our goals in our reality?
Instead of “Make an extra 10k a month”.
How about…
Make an extra 10k a month so I can...
Live with people that inspire me.
So I can gift my Mum that cruise that she’s been wanting to go on for 10 years.
So I can give an extra £500 per month to my favourite dog charity.
So I have the freedom to be around an extra 2 hours a day to see my kids.
So I can comfortably afford that new Merc AMG I’ve had my eye on.
And that’s just for starters…
What’s happened? The goal has changed from a number on a screen, to something real and tangible.
Something you can feel, taste, touch. Real life is a stake.
If I work towards this goal, my life will change. I’ve seen the better future, and now I can work towards it knowing exactly what's in store,
I’m salivating…
I’m emotionally involved...
My brain is revving...
We’ve probably heard this a million times. But I’d ask this…
When was the the last time you checked in with what you’re pursuing and actually figured out what it would mean for your life? Specifically?
Flesh out your goals, make them real.
Head West!
Sometimes, we get stuck. And that’s OK.
What isn’t OK? Wandering around helplessly expecting something amazing to land on your lap.
“But I don’t know what I should do…”
Head in the right direction.
It’s all you have. It’s all you need.
It doesn't have to be pretty.
It doesn't have to satisfy CENTS.
It doesn't have to be separated from your time.
You just need to move (TAKE ACTION).
You learn in the field. You grow in the field. You see opportunity, in, the, field. (not behind that laptop!!!)
If you are sat there behind your laptop ‘waiting for that idea… (and best believe I’ve been there) you are on a dangerous path.
Squash the over analysis. Set a deadline.
“I’m choosing a new project on XXX”
And when that date comes around, you just go with the best thing you’ve got at that moment.
Head roughly (sometimes, very roughly) in the right direction. It is infinitely better than doing nothing.
