I am 24 years old and I started a carpet cleaning business this week. I rented a Kärcher Puzzi 10/1 and bought the basic products I needed to get started. For now, I am driving around in my hatchback and keeping things as lean as possible.
Yesterday and today I did some cleaning jobs for family to practice. I got some decent results, but nothing spectacular yet. I think this may partly be because of the sofa and rug materials, since some fabrics do not show a dramatic before-and-after difference.
My main questions are:
How do you deal with wool rugs and other special materials?
At what point should I upgrade from a rented machine to buying my own?
Is a machine like the Puzzi 10/1 enough to start professionally, or should I be looking at something stronger?
How much of the final result depends on better professional chemicals compared to the machine itself?
Most of the products I could find locally were more consumer-grade than professional, so I am now looking online for proper professional cleaning products, especially for stain removal, wool-safe cleaning and upholstery.
Next week I want to focus on getting my first real customers and providing a good service. I am willing to put in the work and I do not rush the job, but I do feel some pressure because I want to deliver the best result possible. Sometimes I wonder if the results are limited because of the products, the machine, the material, or simply my lack of experience.
Money is tight right now, so renting was my only realistic option for practicing. I am not anywhere near being able to afford a truckmount, and I also do not see many good second-hand machines in my area.
At the moment, I am setting up a website and a Google Business Profile. There is not too much competition in my area, so I believe there is an opportunity to build something here if I can deliver high-quality work and build trust.
