On this old thread, I talked about a business I started a few years ago. As of today, it is still open and still gets some business, but it is nowhere near where I want it to be.
Inspired by @IceCreamKid 's thread about the service businesses making a killing. I thought about either "relaunching" or starting something new altogether.
We haven't been able to solve the problem I mentioned in that old thread (people wasting our time working on estimates and not moving forward with the projects). Even yesterday, I spent like 15 minutes chatting with a lead just to be told that the price was out of their budget.
In the last few years, I've seen other businesses in our area grow way past where we are. All of them offer a "simpler" service, let's say duct cleaning, or drywall repairs, where they go, clean a duct/fix a drywall hole, get paid, and go.
I'm leaning towards launching something new. For these reasons, and others such as the fact that we are known as an organization company (and the name reflects it), and also that, like those other companies I mentioned, I want a service that we can just go, do the work, and get paid right away, without the need to work on designs, written estimates, and those sorts of time-consuming activities that generate $0 revenue.
I thought about lawn mowing, but with our current drought and water restrictions, which seem to happen more often than not lately, I feel like a repairs and maintenance business, some handyman (I hate that word) type work would be a good alternative.
After the disappointing chat yesterday, I did some action-faking and came up with a name and had Gemini create a logo. I've been playing with Google Stitch to create websites, and I should be able to put something together this week.
For advertising, I have experience with our current business. SEO is the best, but I'm willing to try anything and would appreciate some guidance as to what works and what doesn't in 2026. As I mentioned in that service business thread, we've had a terrible experience with AdWords, but I'm happy to try anything.
Thoughts?
Thanks so much!
