Hello everyone, it’s good to be here. My name is Anton Dessov, 32 years old from Bulgaria. I usually go by Tony.
I read the book The Millionare Fastlane and I was relieved to read that there’s a person like @MJ DeMarco that earns a lot, is ethical about it and just wants to have fun as well. I’ve read a bunch of other books on the subject, but they didn’t resonate with me as much.
I am currently working towards starting my own game company. I've been wworking as a freelance FX artist for almost 10 years now, but after waiting 7 years for some programmer to show interests in the games I want to make, I finally gave up and learnt game programming myself. And it turned out that it is quite fun.
I made my first prototype and sent it to publishers. The game was multiplayer and it was tested with friends and colleagues and everyone really thought it was fun - which is the most important thing for a game. But unfortunately, since I was working alone on it, the art was 3D and it was quite blocky, so for various reasons most publishers turned me down (too many risks).
So I shelved that project and started a new one last September. This one can be done with only 2 people (+ audio), but I am currently the only one working on it in my spare time - I am looking to get some initial funding to be able to pay my artist friend, so that she can focus only on this job.
As a side hustle, I just launched a new service that I am trying to see if it will work - basically from the experience I’ve earned over the years, I want to use that for consulting businesses on things like making interactive experiences and using game design logic for problem solving. I don’t know what will happen and if it will evolve in a way to serve clients better, but I am hoping to support people with the skills and knowledge I have!
