Alright so here we go, some back story. My father has been a mason, landscaper, roofer, etc. his entire life. He has built amazing chimneys, walls, patios, and everything else you can think of, mostly by himself or with limited help. My mother helped him a lot, mostly a single-income household, but now the script has flipped. His work has dried up dramatically, although he still has a few customers, and meanwhile my mother is supporting their household with her income. This is a man that survived 40 years on word of mouth alone.
We need to get him back in the game. Early 60s, he has a lot of fuel in the tank still. His truck is old, his equipment sucks, and we're going to fix this predicament with a fresh digital presence, infusion of ad spend & cash once he gets back off the ground. We need to make this a digital native venture, from accepting payments, to emails, to whatever. He can answer the phone, that's what he's great at. I'll help with everything else from email to payments. Should've done this a long time ago, and I had every opportunity to scale this as a family business with him. But I had to go out and conquer my own world before stepping back into his.
Here's a process execution thread on getting a super small local business w/ an experienced owner some fresh digital traffic and work.
What I've done in about 2 hours of work:
- Registered domain
- Set it up on my hosting
- Full, long-form, modern 1-page design on WordPress reused from a page I built for a different business, with anchor link menu items. Copy from Gemini 2.5, images of beautiful MA houses in Midjourney. Main CTA is a form in the hero section
- Full Analytics/Search console setup
- Set up $25/day in Google ad campaigns
- Targeting landscaping, lawn care, fall cleanups, general property maintenance
- I will get my hands dirty on the physical side for some larger cleanup jobs on the weekend or something this fall if needed
Next steps - spend about an hour or two this weekend combing through some of @Johnny boy's landscaping empire thread and bug @Andy Black for his top 2-3 most relevant Google ad threads. If you have a suggestion or two Andy, I know you love to throw them around. I'll read the full thread. In fact, I should really spend a weekend reading as many of your threads as possible, as should anyone on this forum really. Then, need to setup a Stripe account & help him get it connected to his bank.
