Look’s like MJ is going to have to re-write TFLM and insert a new chapter, “The Totally Effing Stupid Lane”. A USA Today article about America’s retirement crisis states that three quarters of Americans are concerned about “not being able to maintain their standard of living” in retirement. There is so much and so little to unpack here, as the solution is explicitly defined in the problem.
Maybe this group can be referred to as The Gutter, or more appropriately, The Sewer. Our culture has become one of hedonistic consumerism and overindulging our entitled offspring. But “the culture” cannot be blamed. Each individual has the power and ability to shape their own destiny, especially given the amazing opportunities available to them in our society. The government should quit listening to this whining and inform its citizens that they will not be bailed out, but will be accountable to themselves for their choices and they need to start making better ones. I’m embarrassed at what we’ve become.
