I have been pleased with the results I have achieved in finding named email addresses for many companies that I want to approach about licensing my invention that enables safe egress for the blind from high rise fires.

The service I use is Find email addresses in seconds • Hunter (Email Hunter) You can do a limited number of searches (50 per month) for free, but with 100 million email addresses indexed you can do many more searches for a monthly fee.

Having thoroughly researched my prospects I often know the names of the people I want to contact, so all I need is their email address.

Hi Walter,

To build upon what you've written, here's some extra information for anyone looking to be extra serious about personalized e-mail outreach at scale.

One of the drawbacks of mass cold e-mail campaigns is that they are not truly personalized. They can be segmented, but rarely include any truly personal sentence.

Yet, it sounds like you research each prospect individually before e-mailing them with some sort of personalized pitch or info. Rather than e-mail them individually, how can you mass e-mail them WITH personalization on a prospect-to-prospect basis? And keep all the follow-ups fully automated?

One way you can successfully automate this while keeping a super high degree of personalization is the following: (super basic!)

Create an excel file with 4 columns: First Name, Last Name, e-mail, personalization. (you can add more data points such as company, phone number, etc, depending on your needs)

So if I wanted to email you, I would fill in a line in my excel (thanks to my research and that e-mail finder tool) and it would look like this:
Walter,Hay,walter.hay@xxxdomain.xyz,I loved your book on how to import from China, just ordered a copy to gift my best friend who's getting started in e-commerce.

Rinse & Repeat for other prospects i'm researching until I have a compelte list of people I want to email on a specific topic.

Then, in my e-mail software I'd upload my completed list. I'd define a template that uses the imported variables to personalize the e-mails.

It would look like:

"Hey {{firstname}}, (you would see Hey Walter)

{{personalized}} (this gets replaced by what you've filled in column 4 of your excel file for this specific prospect, so I'd be letting you know how much I love your book)

Reason I'm reaching out is because you could benefit from automated systems to help you improve sales for your business. We've helped a similar business in the "insert industry" industry more than triple their reply rates (+235%!).

If you can invest 30 minutes getting to know us, you'll see how this works in action with a live demonstration of some of the top outreach software solutions on the market, no commitment needed.

blablabla

Take care,
Lucas"

By adding the {{personalized}} variable to your excel file, you can add that extra level of meaningful personalization that actually shows your prospect you've done the research, and let's them know you care about them. And you get to choose that introductory line for every prospect.

Then, the software does the hard work of replacing that first introductory line with the personalized sentence you've penned out in excel previously. And, it will also take care of all the follow-ups automatically and will track open rates, clicks on links, etc. so that you can measure how your campaign is performing.

A couple e-mail softwares I use are Lemlist and Snov.io.
Also make sure the e-mails addresses are verified before shooting them out. This reduces the likelihood your e-mail will "bounce" - and a high "bounce" rate hurts your domain reputation and your emails may end up getting flagged as spam if you do higher volumes.

Hope this helps you personalize at scale and save a ton of time.

Lucas

Thanks for your input, which could be helpful to many. Personalization is of great value when emailing.

I don't do mass emailing, mainly because my target prospect list is very small. Although there are many in the right industries, I have slowly discovered by thorough research that a lot of them have tunnel vision and have been doing the same thing for generations. They are content to just take orders as they come in, and they sell the same products now that they sold 50 years ago.

As a result I have only sent a couple of emails so far.

Got it! As you mentioned the paid plans on Hunter.io, I thought you were possibly doing volume email campaigns.

It seems like you're looking to work with a laser targeted set of people, and in that case when the target market is so niche, it's definitely better to go for the sniper rifle than the shotgun.

I'm curious, do you have a follow-up system set up; or is it all in the back of your head and you do the follow-ups manually?

Oh, a cold email from a stranger who immediately starts pitching me on something.

*Deletes email.*

Yes, but the proposal I am working on is of massive proportions, so I am leaving time for the idea to be discussed by the board.

Then after two to three weeks I will follow up.

Hunter.io is great. Another similar service is snov.io. I've found that if I can't find an email address in one, its often in the other.
