Yesterday I ordered a dinner through Uber Eats, it was the first time I ever ordered from this restaurant. Turns out the food was pretty good. As of right now I have no idea what restaurant it came from. Today, I ordered lunch and I'm eating fried rice as I type this. I'm thinking it's pretty decent too and again, no idea what restaurant I just ordered it from.

I know I can check my app to see where I ordered from. BUT, the point of this post is that these restaurants are missing branding and marketing opportunities. If either of these places would simply put a take out menu in the order I can see what else they have. I might have their menu on my desk in a few weeks and it would remind me of their food!

Some menus are definitely done better than others. For example...if I'm getting Mexican food, it would be great to have English translations along with a list of ingredients.

Also the option to leave out sauces as a checkbox is great so there are no misunderstandings with the manual entry fields.

And yes a menu would go a long way!

Not surprised. Any reason you chose Uber instead of DoorDash/Seamless/Grubhub/Delivery.com/Postmates?

I have Uber Eats, Doordash, Grubhub and Postmates on my phone, they are all priced around the same, so I choose depending what restaurants are on them. I use mainly Uber Eats and Doordash.

This is the price of using platform of others, same go with Amazon and Ebay, you buy things from sellers but you never know who is the seller

Hmm I think the point was that those restaurants are missing branding and marketing opportunities. But I'm not sure.

And I've discovered nice restaurants close to me via those apps. I don't mind using them.

Maybe they assumed we would just check an online copy of it? I agree its always good business practice to drop a menu. My local Chinese spot always does this even though I systematically order the same dish every time.

I've never been fond of these delivery apps. Great for those who need it, but as long as I got a working car I will just drive to get my food. I'm too spendthrift to spend money on the delivery fee on top of the tip.

There was a photo floating around of a public restroom and the Uber driver had his bag on the floor as he did the deed. That doesn't help my case either.

Yes, that is what I meant. I know the name of the restaurant while I am ordering the food. But a few days later, I won't remember it. All I was saying is that they are missing a chance to add some marketing materials in with their delivery. It could be as simple as a branded take out bag.

Do you think Uber might have a rule against it?

Would make sense, that way you always have to use their app instead of ordering from the restaurant directly.

I was wondering this. But how would Uber know? The food goes from the driver to my house. Many times its in a brown bag, taped up.

Travis K is working on Cloudkitchen project to get rid of physical restaurants. I wonder what is gonna happen to regular restaurants.

A Thai restaurant near my place is doing good with this - They always put in a paper menu in the bag AND offer 10% off if you order directly to them through phone. First time I ordered from our equivalent called Just-Eat, the remainder of the times I've just ordered through the phone.

That would definitely get them terminated on any food app if the company found out

Just Eat is actually a different business model to things like Uber Eats, Door Dash, and Deliveroo. With Just Eat, it's the restaurant which delivers to you directly. JE's main offer is simply online promotion and ordering, without delivery.

I've gotten menus from the restaurants through Just Eat before, however not with Uber Eats. I believe that's due to their different rules.
