Started A UK Consultancy And Felt There Must Be A Better & More Scalable Way

Started a new consultancy in the last two years and it's been a little up and down, feast and famine. It seems to be levelling out now but is highly dependent on my time in order for it to grow. Secondly, I have a sneaky suspicion and niggle that we have a micro-micro niche which is limiting our expansion. At 31 now and 10 years after graduation, I'm thinking that I could create a more scalable business that hits a bigger need with a larger audience, rather than our small niche. Of course, going a different path has its challenges but I want to take more responsibility for the next 10 years of my life rather than going into autopilot.

Are you typing up your content directly or recording and outsourcing or letting the computer type for you?

Dictation is often faster than typing.

What about marketing? Are you making one article and pushing it out to all your social channels and bringing all messages back in one place?

What about landing pages?

How much does each activity take you? How much of your time?

What caused the feast or famine, and why do you think that has leveled out?

Have you read “Built to Sell”?

Just starting to create landing pages for ebooks we have written last week. Got our first one going up tomorrow. Now onto fragmenting some of that content and posting it on various channels.

I haven’t read Built To Sell, would you recommend? I’m querying at the moment whether our market is big enough and perhaps we have a chosen a micro micro niche.

Secondly, I’m assessing whether we do have referral virality after the impact we have for clients is a 10x ROI.

Have you considered serializing? You could split your books up and run a paid newsletter (perhaps a couple of chapters a week) or a wordpress site with subscriptions (perhaps with leaky plugin) to start getting you some organic results) or perhaps add in some free content plus a sample of your paid content which will help you overocme your feast or famine. Paypal gives deals if you bill less than £5 in each transaction, but over multiple weeks/months.

I did a rough example here, although there is no pay or social share enabled as this is just a demo.

Few questions here:

1. You said you’re perhaps in a micro-micro niche. How have you come to that conclusion?

2. How many people are in this niche?

3. Where do you want to get to in terms of profit per year? I’m asking this because if you want to get to 100m/year, it’s very different than 10m or 2m/year.

Once you have it clear where you want to get to, it’s much easier to assess your current situation.

I was talking with a client yesterday, and she had the same questions. “I don’t know if this market is big enough.”. Well, it depends on where you want to go.

I see an opportunity here, as micro niches can be insanely profitable. And if you, as you say, you can give 10x ROI for your clients, there’s a huge possibility for you to dramatically increase your prices.

You can upsell, raise your prices, develop other products/services, create more referrals, etc...

This. I'm after 40k a year, I only need a tiny market .

You want 40.000 income per year? If that’s so, I would highly doubt that your current niche won’t provide that.

If you can find 1 client, there’s 10.

I read a few of the posts and want to post a couple of my thoughts. I’m not an expert, especially not in this space.

First thought is that the majority of your time in any business especially when starting and growing should be spent on marketing, that doesn’t seem like an issue to me. If you said delivering the product I would think that was a problem.

Second thought is there are 2 ways to make millions. Have a massive impact on a few people or have a small impact on millions. It sounds like you could do the first so what can you do to provide your existing clients more value.

And finally, can you add some recurring income to the business to stop the feast and famine? I know a few businesses killing it doing leveraged group coaching. $1000-5000 a month for a course and group webinars and a Facebook group type thing. Very fastlane.
