So tomorrow is one my close family members funeral. And so I work currently for a contract i.t. position. And I just found out today that I DO NOT have PTO for a funeral in my family. So basically I gotta work not just because of that but because I have to save money for an apartment I'm moving into in less than 11 days. So ya. That is the icing on the cake for me. I've been having F#@k that moments on just getting up for work period and missing occasions and get togethers with family. This is my big f@#k this moment. Because I could have time to go mourn my lose at the funeral but can't because of the consequences it'll have on me and my fiance moving into the apartments financially. It is just garbage. Rant over. Just really down about it. I let both the good and the bad fuel me to get to the faslane at this point. Everyday was motivation but that motivation is turning into discipline.

Did you talk about it with your contractor/boss ? He might give you a break for a day.

They don't mind me being off at my job but I'm not hired on to the job I'm at. It's a recruiting agency that I'm under payroll on.

Another moment in particular happened yesterday. So the help desk position I work has alot of procedures more than they do tech troubleshooting. So I talked with my boss on why I haven't been hired yet. The short and sweet answer the gave me is because I haven't retained everything they need me to know by memory and that was basically it. So, there are hundreds of procedures we are required to just magically know, and even the newbies are suppose to know in literally a few weeks to max 3 month. How the f$#k can you learn EVERY PROCEDURE throughout a moderate sized company with 80+ centers we support? So they hired this one guy who does not only tech troubleshooting but also user account stuff in less than 3 months from his first day working as a contract. Which are two big separate responsibilities here. This is the first job I've ever worked at this big of a deal Nationwide. And I only get paid basically in between 15 to 18 dollars an hour (can't say the exact amount for contract reasons) which I feel is bull. So I went from closing almost no tickets, to about 20 tickets a day now max or maybe more. The only reason I don't know everything is literally because I haven't been sat down with and shown certain procedures and written guides. I have been sat down and taught but not literally taught EVERYTHING.

This is why I want to give value to more than only 1 person. Because the only person currently that my value matters to is my boss. Till that boss changes their mind, I'm here. So ya. Funny. Why be stuck with 1 person's opinion towards my value which I can can receive any amount of money from not just 1 but 10, 100, 1000, or even 1 million people. Unscripted and TMFL definitely broke that down for me and showed me this is why I need to never stop pushing to be financially free. Because working 1 job for basically 1 person, is NOT WORTH IT EVER.

Right now I am currently working on starting in freelancing for WordPress website design experience for myself. I'm also taking a WordPress buisness course on Udemy. Once I finish it, I'll start making websites for clients to make some money. But I'll do that so I can see what industry needs value added to it as well. Because looking for an industry manually isn't doing me any good. I'll just start there and also build my own side to find what industry needs value as well.

Not fastlane, but slowlane advice is below...

Sounds like your in the IT industry just like me. Okay As an IT pro myself, I have never taken a contract position. I don't even consider them. IMO there are two completely different type of workers between company workers and contract workers.

I've been in the field for about 6-7 years and make right on six-figures. I'm in the mid-west so this isn't cali or NY salary talk.
I have no certs, everything I know has been self taught.
It's not so much about what you know, it's the qualities that can't be taught, that really matter. Can you handle people, can you close a deal, how's your confidence?
Networking is huge. You'll know about opportunities before they even get posted.

Sounds like the company you're at now is wasting your time. So what can you do about this? MOVE. don't be afraid to move, and while you're at it make sure you get a $20k raise wherever you go.

You may be saying to yourself, there's no way I can do this. Well I did, several times in fact, and I'm probably going to move again in a few months and get myself another $20k raise.

EDIT: if i was ever declined bereavement I would be leaving that company as fast as i could. No not PTO, you shouldn't have to take PTO for bereavement. And make sure any company you work for knows that you value your family over your job. Family is forever, job is temporary. There's plenty of other fish in the sea, if you don't like the taste of one, get out your fishing pole and try again.

Sounds like a toxic work environment to me. The conditions and management seem poor. I've been there done that; I advise you to leave this job and find something better, preferably fast lane oriented. Once you start actively seeking employment, you'll find it. The greatest of opportunities are yet to be found my friend.

It's up to you to take this advice and watch your life slowly but surely improve, or watch your health suffer like mine did.

Sounds like carrot and stick BS to me. Also does not make sense why they would not hire you before you learn all the procedures. If they can see you are responsible and a fast learner, they should hire you as fast as possible. Maybe they just not interested in bringing new people on? That's the problem with corporate politics, you never know what is really going on.

Another approach you could take is to find a pain point in your current job you can automate or write a simple web app for, maybe some manual process that can easily be automated but is still all done by hand, like some database lookup, and update function you can perform with the click of a button and enable all the tech support team to do that. Once you do that and learn some basic programming and database concepts, you could see if they would hire you on as a junior software developer. Just an idea. Your salary will probably double from changing to software developer.

Did you have a look at @Fox 's threads about websites?

Well I'm a fast learner if I know the correct procedures to do. I know all the hardware and software steps to taken ow. But now I've got the procedures and polices down now. It's not too much a corporate position but more laid back than that I suppose. But anyway. I'm already working on websites and learning web design and many other things. Difficult but worth the journey.
