Hey what's up everyone! I am finally ready to kill it, and now that I have a break for Thanksgiving and college applications are winding down, I am going to put in some grind into my new business idea that I think can help a TON of people.

I am starting a course that will teach people how to memorize key information from books to apply them to their own life. I cannot underemphasize how much this has helped me in my life, and I want to bring it to other people. To show you guys how this has helped me I'll tell you a quick story:

I learned about the memory palace technique about five years ago, and I started using it to memorize random things. I memorized the order of the planets, the presidents, states and their capitols, and a lot of other things using this technique. Some time went by and I noticed something strange: I never forgot what I memorized in this palace. Fast forward three years... I was reading a book on influence and I thought to myself, what if I memorized this book using the memory palace technique. So I go ahead and memorize it... and WHAM... all of the sudden I have this wealth of influence information at my disposal and I start using it on a daily basis and seeing astounding results. I became way more convincing and I had an easy time getting results I wanted from various situations by applying what I memorized. I start memorizing more books, seeing better results, and now I have very good technique to teach people how to memorize these books and get the most out of them.

So this is what I am going to teach in my course!

So how are we gonna get people to buy the course??:
1) create and ebook
2) create a mailing list
3) respond to comments on quoras and YouTube videos about memory techniques and link to my ebook that you need to sign up on my mailing list to get
4) market the course to my mailing list for $99

TODO:
1) finish recording and editing the course
2) create the course website
3) create the ebook
4) create the mailing list flow
5) market

Also, I will gladly give you guys early access to the course for free so you learn and give me feedback!

So memory palace is where you imagine a castle and put certain things in a room. Then you imagine yourself pulling those things out of a room?

There are a few variations on the "memory palace" technique, but in short yes that's the gist of it. Memory palace as I understand the term is a mnemonic method involving visualizing a series of images that you associate with the actual items you want to remember. I've seen guys memorize the order of a shuffled deck of cards in a few moments of looking at it. It's an amazing thing.

Looking forward to watching this unfold. Ill buy your ebook and write a review, so get that bad boy out.

Kind of. I, myself do not imagine a castle, but use places I am familiar with.

It takes advantage of our amazing ability for spatial awareness. If I ask you to remember the house you grew up in or your high school, you would do it quite easily. (at least most of us would). The idea is to use that ability to remember places to store information.

It requires a good investment of time, but it does work.

If you have 20 min to spare, give it a shot.

@Sfrat food for thoughts, why not pair the memory palace with a proper reading's system?

Many don't read well. They passively turn pages and/or accumulate information. Instead of aiming for a solid understanding.

It would be quite powerful and I dare to say life-changing, to pair a good reading system with memory palaces.

As for your business model, you can reverse-engineer what Dr Anthony Metivier, Jonathan Levi and Jim Kwik are doing. They seem to be pretty successful in the same area.

I just want to share a tip for this.My grandfathers house is ontop of hills around a valley town. The town was small and frequently cut off from the globe due to the despotic government. The only place you could get internet were cafe stations within the city which charged you a reasonable price and monitored information.Around this time i got into reading alot more and writing, memorising was extremely difficult for me while reading.Furthermore i felt i was cognitvely impaired due to my lack of memory recall. So i tried a weird technique of semi starving myself, i wouldnt eat anything for 14-16 hours a day and force myself to read or do other tasks. The result was an increase in memory retention and understanding.I dont know why but it works.

Thanks for the reply. In the course, I will be teaching people how to properly annotate and take good notes once they are finished the book, as I believe this is essential for actually converting the book into memories in your palaces. Now that you point it out, I should probably making a video talking about bad reading habits and how to avoid them, so my users get the most out of my course.

Also thanks for the links to people doing similar things. I've heard of Jim Kwik, but the other people are completely new to me. I'll definitely be taking a look at their stuff so I can get an edge on them.

That's a funny story. The effect your talking about is well known actually. When you don't eat two things happen: your body makes ketones and BDNF. Both of these compounds result in increased intelligence (ketones I believe make you focus more and concentrate, BDNF makes you store memories better which increases effective intelligence)

All right! I'm back with some progress. Midterms did slow me down a lot, and I definitely bit off more courses then I should have this semester (I literally had about three hours of time to study a day between classes and walking to class). But now, I have dialed my course load back a notch, and this semester I am going to make my business take off.

I have a working website now: thelearnsmarter.com I don't have a product on this site yet, but I am going to try to build an audience using blog posts, and then I will sell premium content to that audience.

For example, I have posts right now that teach people how to use the memory palace technique and memory apps. In the future, I am going to create more advanced posts that cover topics such as "how to memorize a book." Those posts will be extremely basic. At the bottom of the post, I will mention for more advanced techniques I offer a course. In addition to this, I will be doing the marketing I talked about above.

ToDo:
  1. Find a better theme for the website
  2. Create a compelling About Us page
  3. Make More Posts (I'm going to try to have 30 before I make the course)
  4. Drive Traffic
  5. Learn Good Content Making
All feedback is appreciated! Thanks in advanced!

Are you going to presell the course or make it and then sell it? Have you done any test marketing?

How are you going to drive traffic and are you going to use to a dedicated solution for hosting your course?

I like the niche you are tackling!

Increasing intelligence appeals to the basic human trait of feeling superior.

In what ways are you marketing this?

waiting for the nootropics post :)

Thanks for the site building tutorial. I'll check it out if I can't find a good wordpress theme.

I already made the course, so I think I will just market it normally, and I have not done any test marketing yet. I have a strategy right now for some basic marketing, but I will have to research some more longterm and scalable strategies.

Thanks, I'm really pleased with this niche too! I think I will start marketing it manually. I will answer questions on YouTube videos related to the niche with a link to my site. I will do the same with Quora questions. I also think I will promote it on learning/memory forums. Eventually I will have to establish a more scalable marketing strategy.

Also, glad to here you are excited for the nootropics posts. Are there any other posts you would want to see?

I enjoyed the health post today.I have recently found out i only work 3 hours of the day(started measuring it strictly), it seemed food played a large factor in energy and thus skill gathering.

Making more posts with studies linked to them would make you much more reputable. These should be scientific case studies and obviously need a good skim.

Video formats would be great as well, try creating animated videos depicting intelligence.

Update:
I've been working hard on posts for TheLearnSmarter.com. I think I have done five or six since I last posted in here. I finished my about us page, but I have not finished my theme yet. I should be working on it some upcoming day this week.

I also have a really cool post coming up about how to memorize all the countries in the world with their capitals and their locations on a map.

Updated TODO:
  1. Find a better theme for the website
  2. Make Even More Posts (11 out of 30)
  3. Drive Traffic
  4. Learn Good Content Making
I am reading some books about content marketing right now. I am reading a book on how to tell stories, and the next book I am reading is called Content Inc. about how brands use content to drive traffic.

Today I am working on a post about how to memorize numbered lists of things

Update:
I have completely reworked the website layout, so it now looks much better. Tell me your thoughts: www.thelearnsmarter.com I am still working on posts, but once I hit thirty posts, I will space my posts out farther (maybe one a week). I will do this so I can do more impressive and interesting posts.

Updated TODO:
  1. Make 30 posts (19/30)
  2. Drive Traffic
  3. Create a Start Here Page

Your site is looking better. But you should add a headline and a CTA (such as "Start here" button) overtop that bokeh photograph. When a user lands on your homepage, what do you want them to do? The headline should succinctly tell them the purpose of the site, and then have a CTA that is the next logical step. In your case, a "Start learning better" CTA or something similar could work well.

It's always good to have photos of faces (smiling, eye contact) on your landing page. You should consider replacing the bokeh background with one of a person.

Also on your About Page maybe include your name?

Looks great! The description under the menu items is unique.

What does the sidebar look like if it's simpler? The coloring makes me want to group Anki + Intelligence + Major System, etc. under some sort of label/category in my mind. Not sure if that's intentional.
