Yep, just bought a house.

Is it a super sexy house that will have hordes of women knocking on my door, oogling at my new abode?

Nope, not really. It's an older house and has some work that needs to be done with it. (Drywalling, updating the HVAC system, and tearing out the shagadelic calico orange carpet)

But it does something critical for my future unscripted lifestyle. It gives me mortgage-free freedom.

What's the best part? It's a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house and I have someone lined up to rent out the other half of the house.

Living for freeeeeee! Similar to what @G_Alexander did quite a few years ago in one of his threads I think. (House hacking)

I'm pretty pumped to say the least. I've also been developing a product for the past 3 months and I plan on turning the living room into a fulfillment center... lol

On my way to becoming unscripted , baby...

Props. Mind if I ask what city? I’m guessing it’s in a rural area?

I have a friend that we will call Kevin, cuz that was his name :) , and he bought a house in about 1992. Had 3-4 roommates..... never paid 1 penny for rent or bills and now has a paid for, very nice house. He has never talked about any other of his finances but I'm sure he has saved and saved.

Yep, it's in a microscopic town, which is a big reason why it was so cheap. (population of 125) It's in Southwestern Minnesota.

Yeah, it seems like a good way to go. I've lived in uptown Minneapolis for a couple years and paid 1/3 of what I made in my job just to pay rent. I moved back home and the wages seemed to stay the same, yet now I'm paying way less with my cost of living.

Awesome congrats. I plan to do house hacking too but in a big city. I used to live in a rural area where the homes were cheap but I did not like the environment. Small towns seem so dead it was not motivating at all.
The other negative of small towns is that logistics are slow and some don't even have internet access.

Kansas city has plenty of houses around that, but not nearly that size or the lot size. good score.

Plenty of 'em around Troost and Prospect I bet.

Nice. I love those green carpets!

I lived in a place that looked pretty similar to that in a rural Canadian location for about 2.5 years. Rent was $400. It was great. Split that with my cousin who I was living with at the time. Allowed me to save a lot of money

Oh hell, that carpet isn't too bad. You should have seen the 2" shag damn-near-fluorescent-orange carpet I had in my first apartment. It went well with the orange-and-silver geometric-pattern wallpaper... **shudder**

Good score on the house!

Hey neighbor. People don't know how inexpensive housing is in those rinky dink towns.

Heck yeah! That's the truth.

I was reading on one of the documents my realtor gave me that said the yearly property tax rate for this house is $89... :hilarious:
